Sage advice: 4th Fighter Wing leader has good ideas for community

Col. Christopher Sage, commander of the 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, does more than just ensure that his jets are battle ready.

Sage is acutely aware of the base's role in the Wayne County community, and in a recent interview with The News-Argus he described how he plans to work to enlarge and strengthen that role.

He especially noted the importance of finding employment for the spouses of airmen at the base, pointing out that they offer a wide variety of skills that local businesses can take advantage of. A job fair planned for October will showcase those skills and hopefully help link local businesses with spouses who will be able to find employment here, boosting the local economy.

Sage also pointed to the county's commitment to improving education and said that is encouraging to the military community, which always takes into account the educational opportunities available for the children of the men and women stationed here.

It's good to know that Wayne has such an astute and caring partner in Col. Sage, and we wish him well in his stay here. Together, we can make a better base and a better community.
