Middle ground: Clinton working to pick up disaffected GOP voters

As the presidential campaign grinds on toward November Hillary Clinton is working to win over not only undecided voters but disaffected Republicans as well.

Although Donald Trump has a solid base among his tea party supporters, he has increasingly alienated more moderate Republicans who see him as too unstable to hold the office.

Trump's recent gaffes, including his claim that President Obama founded the Islamic State, have only strengthened his opponent and her resolve to take away votes that a Republican candidate could normally count on.

Clinton is reaching out to those Republicans in her speeches, calling on them to see her as the true moderate candidate. Whether she can win their trust is debatable but the mere fact that she sees their votes as possibilities spells trouble for Trump. He needs to convince voters that he is capable of controlling himself on the stump if he wants them to see him as the man who should sit in the Oval Office.
