Gerrymandered: Recent ruling by federal court is hypocritical

A federal appeals court has said that the state House and Senate districts drawn up by the Republican controlled Legislature are unconstitutional and must be redrawn.

We are just glad that the justices agreed that the ruling should not affect the coming November vote. They said it was too late in the election cycle for that to be feasible.

What we don't understand is how the court could base its ruling on the fact that the districts are based too much on racial lines. Heck, the whole election district system has been based on race since Democrats and the NAACP sought to create black majority districts in the late 1980s. It is hypocritical for any judicial body to suddenly decide that the districts drawn by Republicans are unfair. The same could have been said about those drawn by Democrats.

It is patently racist to draw voting district lines by using race as a guideline. In this day and time the idea that black voters will only vote for a black candidate and that white voters will only vote for a white candidate is ridiculous.
