Brouhaha: Trump comment opens doors to wrong assumption

Donald Trump's penchant for opening his mouth and letting whatever is on his mind come out has come back to bite him again.

This time it was his comment about Hillary Clinton and the Second Amendment that created an uproar.

We don't believe the Republican candidate meant to say that he thought that supporters of the amendment could, or should, take violent action against Clinton if she is elected president.

Not even the loose-lipped Trump would suggest such a thing.

We, like House Speaker Paul Ryan, believe it was just a joke gone bad, that he meant gun rights supporters should come out to vote against her.

The problem is that Trump, who speaks off the cuff most of the time, exercised bad judgment in saying something that could be interpreted to mean he condoned violence against his opponent.

He should know better by now that the media hangs on his every word, looking for just such a comment to blow it out of proportion.
