Wrong door: Donald Trump may have flushed his chances around here

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump came out last week and said he believes that North Carolina's new law requiring people to use the public restroom of their gender anatomy, rather than their gender identity, is wrong and should be changed.

We are disappointed.

Trump carried Wayne County in the March primary with nearly 5,000 votes because those Wayne voters believed him to be a conservative candidate. We don't think allowing a man dressed as a woman being able to use a women's restroom is very conservative. And we believe that many voters who have been supporting Trump as a true conservative need to rethink that label.

Trump's statement puts him right in line with President Obama, who has also called for the repeal of the North Carolina law, which we believe is only common sense.

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz caught a lot of heat earlier in the campaign when he referred to Trump's "New York values."

Maybe Cruz had something after all.
