Old and new: There will be new leadership, but others to thank as well

At long last, the elections are over and Goldsboro has a new slate of officials -- some old and some new.

And while there is reason to look ahead with some excitement at the new ideas and new perspectives that are coming, there is also a reason to look back, too.

Several longtime members of the city government are saying farewell to public service, chief among them Mayor Al King.

While there are some in the city who might not have always agreed with what they decided or the ideas they came up with, bottom line is that we owe them a debt of gratitude.

While some might think that the job of mayor or council member is an easy one, it is really a pretty big time commitment if it is done right.

From constituent calls to meetings and public events, these men have stayed busy day in and day out.

And while that is what you sign up for when you run for office, that does not mean that it should not be acknowledged and appreciated.

So thank you to Mayor King and council members William Goodman, Charles Williams and Michael Headen. You have been a part of making this city a better place.
