Time to vote: Casting your ballot is critical in key city races

It might seem like it would be easy to put it off, to wait until the general election in November to have your say in choosing who will run the city of Goldsboro.

After all, you might think, this is just a primary. How much could one vote matter?

Funny how many times that same statement has been followed several days later by, "I can't believe he won (or didn't win)."

Early voting opened last week in the mayoral primary and in a primary battle for District 4 of Goldsboro City Council. And there are still a few days left, as well as the actual primary date, Oct. 6, to get to the polls.

But there are many people who won't bother to vote in this early matchup, thinking that they will wait until there are two candidates to choose from this November.

And that would be a big mistake.

This is an important election. Making sure the city has candidates on the ballot who are actually qualified to run the city is critical.

Once the ballot is set, there is no going back, if that is not the result.

So do your research. Look over the names on the ballot, review their credentials and then get out to the polling places and have your say.

That way, when it comes time to vote this November, you will have the best chance of putting the right person in the seats.

Sitting at home only makes that job a whole lot harder.
