A fresh start: New crop in Congress could bring new view

This is a day to be optimistic.

The new Congress is set to take up business on Tuesday -- with a lot of new faces and, hopefully, a new attitude.

It is not all that surprising that more than a few people are skeptical -- those who have been there so far do not have the best track record for actually getting things done.

But hope springs eternal.

There is a lot to get done this year. Lots of decisions to make and policies to evaluate. And, hopefully, politics will not get in the way of what is right for the American people.

There will be a lot for all of us to watch in 2015, but the most important is to see what these new leaders have to say -- and what promises they keep. That will be the true sign of whether this is a step forward or backward.
