A role model: How nice it would be to have a young woman of faith in spotlight

Sick of Miley Cyrus and her ever-present tongue? Wondering why, if Lady Gaga has had so many hits, she can't afford more clothes?

Not sure exactly what has gone wrong with Selena Gomez?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, think about this -- how about a young woman who is actually a role model?

Enter Majesty Rose -- or Majesty York as this community knows her.

Goldsboro's "American Idol" hopeful is a young woman who just might be the antidote to the recent rash of sleazy and disappointing teen performers that seem to make the entertainment news these days.

Majesty is a young woman of faith who is not afraid to be part of inspiring young people and showing them that there is a better way. And she has made that part of her mission in the world of music.

How nice would it be to have a young woman who is someone you could point to as an example rather than one you had to ban from your child's iPod because you do not know what she is going to say or to do next?

Of course, no one is perfect, and this young woman isn't either, but her story has enough good news in it to make her an alternative to what trolls the halls of pop music now.

All we have to hope is that she is able to stay true to herself -- no matter what happens.

And from what her friends say, that is exactly what this young woman plans.

So vote -- if only to see if it is possible for a young woman of principle to actually survive in the world of music today.
