Tour de Wayne: Tourism money could be boon to local economy

The news that a tennis tournament is coming to Goldsboro -- and the continued possibility of developing even more sports tourism in the area -- are bits of non-traditional good news that might get overlooked.

If the city can continue to attract these dollars, they will not only benefit the city and county's coffers, but those of local businesses as well.

And more dollars in anyone's coffers mean more opportunities for the kind of development and quality of life additions that benefit all residents.

So although the tournament might add a little traffic or a couple longer lines or two, the news that $300,000 in possible extended revenue is worth the minor inconvenience.

Goldsboro and Wayne County have a lot to offer -- and many as yet untapped possibilities.

With vision and a little elbow grease, this community just might be able to set itself up as a destination worth a tourism stop.

And that is good news for residents and businesses alike.
