Save a life: Weekend benefit, adoption a chance to make a difference

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Wayne County Animal Adoption and Education Center did not need more volunteers?

Wouldn't it be something if there were fewer dogs and cats nobody wanted -- and if we could find an abundance of homes for those who did not have one?

This weekend, you can help make that dream one step closer to reality by joining members of the rescue community at the Animals of Wonderland benefit.

Come and enjoy the play Saturday, which tells a story of kindness and compassion with a whimsical flair, after enjoying the fun planned earlier that day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be animal programs, fun for the children and the chance to learn more about the county's local rescue groups and the efforts to assist needy animals around the county.

And, if you have been thinking about adding a pet to your household, come see the animals available for adoption.

The event is designed to raise money for the shelter and for the Wayne County Humane Society's spay and neuter efforts as well as other programs designed to help strays in the county.

It will be a day of fun -- and a chance to save a life or maybe even two or three.

It will be time well-spent -- and a lot of fun, too.
