Joy Irene Uzzell and Brian Thomas Martens of Raleigh exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 28, 2013, at half after six o’clock at Delightful Inspirations in Raleigh. The wedding officiant was Barry Ginn.

The bride is the daughter of Jimmy and Becky Falk and Monte Uzzell of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Ruth Uzzell and the late Brantley Uzzell of Goldsboro and the late Mr. and Mrs. M. Patrick Jones of Goldsboro.

She graduated from Rosewood High School and Barton College with a bachelor degree in social work. She is currently attending University of New England, and will graduate in May with her master’s degree in social work. She is employed with the state of North Carolina at Polk Correctional.

The groom is the son of Torry and Brenda Webb and the late Mr. Thomas Martens of Richland, Wash. He is the grandson of Mr. Woodrow C. and Doris B. Smith of Mansfield, Mo., and Mr. Richard E. Martens and the late Mrs. Margaret Martens of Richland, Wash.

He graduated from Kamikan High School in Washington, and is currently attending college at the University of Colorado, studying to be an electrician. He served in the Marines for four years with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Presented in marriage by her parents, the bride was escorted by her father and stepfather.

She wore a white taffeta pearl-sequenced strapless gown and carried a bouquet of red roses and lilies. Her jewelry consisted of a white pearl set, which the bride gave as a gift and was worn by the maid of honor and bridesmaids. She also wore her great grandmother’s ring.

Megan Variano of Raleigh, friend of the bride, served as the maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Angela Genna, Gineve Taylor, Erica Owens, Heidi Yehia and Jamie Mckenna, friends of the bride, and Brooke Martens, sister of the groom.

Ronald Knight of Washington state, friend of the groom, served as the best man. The groomsmen consisted of Matthew Rains, Kyle Strothman, Taylor Ivey and Nathan Schoggins, friends of the groom; Nick Martens, brother of the groom; and Brant Uzzell, brother of the bride. Ushers were Justin and Alex Webb, brothers of the groom.

The ring bearer was Ian Dale, cousin of the bride. The flower girl was Rory Smith, cousin of the bride’s niece. Caroline Jones, cousin of the bride, presided at the register. Ashley Whittington was the director of the wedding.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at Delightful Inspirations.

The eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Backyard Bistro in Raleigh.

Events held before the wedding included a bridesmaid luncheon hosted by the bride’s mom at Relish Café in Raleigh; a bachelorette weekend in Charleston, S.C., the weekend before wedding; a bridal shower and cookout hosted by the maid of honor, Megan Variano, and the bride’s mother, in Goldsboro; and an engagement party given by friends of the couple at Isaac Hunter’s Tavern in Raleigh.

Following the honeymoon trip to St. Maarten, the couple will reside in Raleigh.
