Mrs. Bell

Carrie Evelyn Bell and John Harrison Shields exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony March 24 at 6 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, with the Rev. Dorothy Campbell Hunt officiating.

The bride is the daughter of John Richard Bell III and Cynthia Ezzell Bell of Mount Olive and the granddaughter of Norwood and Elinor Ezzell of Mount Olive and the late John and Evelyn Bell of Faison.

She is a graduate of North Duplin High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is employed as a territory sales supervisor for Time Warner Cable.

The groom is the son of Douglas R. Jones and Ann McLean Jones of Greensboro and the grandson of the late Robert and Miriam McLean of Greensboro, the late Esther Beulah Jones of Greensboro and the late Paul Jones of Detroit, Mich.

He graduated from Page High School and attended North Carolina State University. He is self employed as owner of The Corner Slice at Fisher Park.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore The Waverly gown designed by Modern Trousseau, a sweetheart, fit-to-flare gown featuring asymmetrical pleating all around the body. The waistline was accented with a full beaded lace belt added by the bride. Covered buttons lined the back of the gown leading to a full chapel train.

The bride’s single-layer chapel-length veil, edged in ivory ribbon trim, complimented her gown.

Her handmade bouquet was full of vintage rhinestone brooches in antique champagne finish, including assorted flower brooches with various pearl, crystal, gold and rhinestone pieces passed down from her mother, grandmothers and aunts, accentuated with lace from her mother’s wedding veil.

Laura Michelle Hedden of Six Mile, S.C., friend of the bride, was her matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Kelli Gurley Bell of Goldsboro, sister-in-law of the bride, and friends, Kimberly Davis Joyner of Mount Olive and Emily Moore Welchman of Greensboro.

Douglas R. Jones was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were John Richard Bell IV of Goldsboro, brother of the bride, and friends, John David Welchman of Greensboro and Justin Ryan Apple of Raleigh.

Ushers were Justin Phillips Houglan and Robert Johnstone McLean of Greensboro, uncle of the groom.

Ms. Mimi McGinn directed the wedding, with Liz Doebler coordinating.

Register attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Michael Odom, uncle and aunt of the bride, and program attendant, Mr. Norwood F. Ezzell II, uncle of the bride.

A program of wedding music was provided by Tom Shelton, vocalist; John Alexander, organist; and Dr. Edward Bach of Greensboro, trumpeter.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at The Elm Street Center in the Regency Room. Greeters were Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Davis of Mount Olive and Jennifer Reavis and Holly Hofbauer of Greensboro.

After their wedding trip to the Dominican Republic, the couple will reside in Greensboro.

Events held before the wedding included a shower at First Methodist Church in Mount Olive to meet the groom hosted by friends of the bride’s family; a bachelorette night hosted by friends; a bachelor night hosted by the best man; a shower for Greensboro friends hosted by the groom’s family; a bridesmaids’ luncheon hosted by bride’s grandmother and aunts; and a groom’s golf day hosted by friends.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at O’Henry in Greensboro.
