Mary Jewel Casey of Goldsboro and Jonathan Lee Shaffer of Girard, Kan., exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 11 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, with Dr. Glenn Phillips Jr. officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Roger Paul Casey Jr. and Johnnie Hicks Casey of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Roger Paul Casey and the late Jewel Keen Casey of Goldsboro and the late John Andrew and Mary Sasser Hicks of Pikeville.

She is a 2001 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School, a 2005 graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a 2008 and 2011 graduate of East Carolina with master’s degrees in elementary education and middle grades education. She is employed as a teacher.

The groom is the son of Jack Allen and Janis Marie Geier of Girard, Kan., the grandson of the late Charles and Julia Shaffer and the late James Dale and Margarette C. Eberhart of Parsons, Kan., and the great-grandson of Robert and Olive Eberhart and Elsie Shaffer.

He served in the military, and was deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. He attends college for a business degree.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a stunning strapless sweetheart neckline ivory organza ball gown. The fitted bodice featured ruched organza highlighting the dropped waistline and embellishments throughout finishing with a corset back. The ballgown skirt was accented with Swarovski crystals and detailed embroidery and flowed into a semi-cathedral-length train.

Her headpieces were a cathedral-length ivory veil and a shoulder-length ivory veil both accented with beading.

The bride carried a bouquet of ivory roses accented with pink calcynia and hand-tied satin ribbon.

Kristin Mayo was her cousin’s matron of honor, while Kristy Barefoot, friend of the bride, was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Amanda Casey, sister of the bride; Claudia Goguen, friend of the bride; and Jamie Shaffer, sister of the groom.

Mitchell Cargil was his friend’s best man.

Groomsmen were Jace Geier, brother of the groom, and Brandon Ulbrich, Conrad Landis and Steven Pate, friends of the groom.

Margarette Salsbury, goddaughter of the groom, was flower girl. Braden and Jackson Salsbury, cousins of the groom, were ringbearers.

Elsie Hooks and Deana Holland directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Kerry Casey, sister-in-law of the bride. Carter Salsbury and Hannah Garner distributed the programs.

Elizabeth McCauley was Scripture reader.

A program of wedding music was provided by Kristin Mayo, vocalist, and Carol Gray, organist.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a sit-down dinner and dance reception at Goldsboro Country Club. Linda Parsons and Linda Everhart greeted guests. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lane said goodbyes.

After their wedding trip to Cancun, Mexico, the couple will reside in Greenville.

Events held before the wedding included a bridal shower March 5 in Girard, Kan., hosted by the groom’s family; a bridal shower April 10 in the church parlor hosted by ladies of First Baptist Church; and a bridesmaid’s dinner June 9 at Goldsboro County Club.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner in Elsie Hooks Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church.
