Summer Dawn Pittman of Pikeville and David Dortch Flowers III of Wilson exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony April 9 at 6 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Pikeville, with Andy Stovall officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Gregory Lee and Wendy Britt Pittman of Fremont and the granddaughter of Hazel Pittman Rowe and the late Elvin “Pappy” Pittman and Lester and Ann Britt of Pikeville.

She is a 2004 honor graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2008 graduate of Barton College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She was a member and president of Delta Zeta Sorority and a member of Barton College Women’s Tennis Team. She is employed full-time as a critical care flight nurse/paramedic for EastCare with Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville and part-time with Wayne Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse in the intensive care unit and emergency department.

The groom is the son of David Flowers Jr. of Wilson and Katie Brantley Finch of Lucama, the stepson of Tonya Flowers and the grandson of Sue Flowers and the late David Flowers of Macclesfield and Worley and Dorothy Flowers of Lucama.

He graduated in 2002 from Wilson Christian Academy and a 2007 graduate of Barton College with a degree in history and a minor on geography. He attended Mount Olive College, where he was on the men’s basketball team and cross country team. He is employed as a teacher/coach/assistant athletic director at Community Christian School.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

Melissa Charles was her friend’s matron of honor, while Autumn Pittman, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Jayme Beacham, Jennifer Mitchell and Allie Vara, friends of the bride, and Abigail Pierce, cousin of the bride.

David Flowers Jr. was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Drew Bailey and Josh Morrison, friends of the groom; Jason Joyner and Phillip Joyner, brothers of the groom; and Jason Joyner, cousin of the groom.

Olivia Pierce, cousin of the bride, was the junior bridesmaid.

Taylor Britt, cousin of the bride, was the junior groomsman.

Honorary bridesmaids were sisters of Delta Zeta Sorority.

Abigail Wyatt, friend of the groom, and Hannah Gay, friend of the bride, were flower girls. Jackson Camaioni, friend of the bride, was ringbearer.

Wanita Bleadsoe, aunt of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Sommer Tomlinson, cousins of the groom. Alisha Tomlinson, cousin of the bride, distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Allison Syverson, Lori DeBose and Walton and Robin Aycock, vocalists.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a dinner and dance reception at The Brick Village.

After their wedding trip to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, the couple will reside in Pikeville.

Events held before the wedding included an engagement party and dinner Oct. 2 at the home of the bride’s parents hosted parents of the couple; a wedding shower Feb. 27 at West Wilson Church of God hosted by the groom’s family; a wedding shower March 6 at Braswell Hall hosted by family and friends of the bride; a steak dinner and wedding shower March 17 at Ebenenzer United Methodist Church hosted by family of the bride; a bachelor weekend March 25 through 27 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., hosted by friends of the groom; a bachelorette weekend March 25 through 27 in Raleigh and Pikeville hosted by friends of the bride; a Honeymoon shower March 26 in Pikeville hosted by friends of the bride; and a bridal shower at Logans Steakhouse hosted by co-workers of the bride from ICU at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Pleasant Hill Church April 8. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
