Eleanor Scott Best and Thomas Hill Davis III exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Andrew Ross Clark officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clement Munroe Best Jr. of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Mrs. William Jay Derby, the late Mr. Derby and the late Mr. and Mrs. Clement Munroe Best of Goldsboro.
She is a graduate of Wayne Country Day School, Wake Forest University, with a bachelor’s degree in English and Queens University of Charlotte, with a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing.
She was presented by the Terpsichorean Club in Raleigh at the 2002 North Carolina Debutante Ball, where she was an assistant leader.
She is employed as senior associate editor of Chapel Hill Magazine and Durham Magazine.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hill Davis Jr. of Raleigh and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hill Davis of Raleigh and the late Dr. and Mrs. Hadley McDee Wilson of Boone.
He is a graduate of Needham Broughton High School, and graduated magna cum laude as a Carswell Scholar from Wake Forest University, with a bachelor’s degree in history. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the Wake Forest School of Law, where he also graduated magna cum laude as a Carswell Scholar graduate. He has just completed a clerkship with Judge Richard L. Voorhees.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
Mary Hope Best Crocker of Goldsboro was her sister’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Angela Swaim Best of Goldsboro, sister-in-law of the bride; Julia Hadley Davis of Raleigh, sister of the groom; and Susan Dunlap Stackhouse of Raleigh, cousin of the bride.
Alexander Erwin Davis of Columbia, S.C, was his brother’s best man.
Groomsmen were Hunter McDowell Davis of Raleigh, brother of the groom; Clement Munroe Best III of Goldsboro, brother of the bride; Robert Blain Crocker of Goldsboro, brother-in-law of the bride; and Brendan John Bowen of St. Simons Island, Ga., Christopher Tyler Hunter of Winston-Salem, Michael David Fussell, McKenzie Thomas Olmstead and Alexander Davis Rogers of Raleigh, friends of the groom.
Mary Scott Best and Hannah Clare Best, nieces of the bride, were flower girls. Jake Robert Crocker and Hinton Munroe Crocker, nephews of the bride, were ringbearers.
Isabelle Williams Doss directed the wedding.
A program of wedding music was provided by Dr. Jeremy Thompson, organist; Milly Olah, violinist; Dennis de Jong, trumpeter; and Thomas Shaw, vocalist.
Emma Hope Carmichael, Anna Ross Carmichael and Emma Jane Zamikoff, cousins of the bride, distributed programs.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at Walnut Creek Country Club.
After their wedding trip, the couple will reside in Chapel Hill.
Events held before the wedding included an engagement party in Morehead City hosted by family and friends; a bridesmaids’ luncheon hosted by family; and a wedding eve dance hosted by family and friends at Goldsboro Country Club.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner Sept. 17 at Goldsboro Country Club.
