PRINCETON — Mellissa Brooke Mitchell and Joshua Clay Overton exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 22 at 4 p.m. at Whitley Church, with pastors Ferrell Hardison and pastor Andy Stovall officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Rob and April Mitchell of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Jimmy Ray and Alice Strickland Mitchell of Mount Olive, David L. Pridgen of Kinston and the late Glenda Sedell Jones of Goldsboro.

She is a 2009 graduate of Buck Run Christian Academy and attends Wayne Community College for an associate degree. She is employed as a bridal consultant at The Bridal Gallery.

The groom is the son of Terry and Sandra Overton of Pikeville and the grandson of Jimmy and Faye Overton of Dudley, Ernestine Hardee of Saulston and the late Charles “Winky” Brown of Grantham.

He is a 2007 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. He is employed as the middle school youth pastor at Whitley Church.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a formal gown of white organza over satin with an illusion halter over a sweetheart neckline. The bodice was beaded with grand metallic embroidery, embellished crystals, rhinestones, beads and sequins. The drop waist led into a full skirt adorned with beading and embellishments that flowed into a royal-length train.

Her headpiece was a sheer white fingertip-length veil placed below her sculpted curls adorned with clear rhinestones.

The bride carried a clutch bouquet of orange tiger lilies, hot pink spray roses, green cymbidium orchids and green button poms. The stems were adorned with white sheer ribbon and pearls and were exposed at the tips.

Sarah Mitchell of Raleigh was her cousin’s maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Monica Beushauson, Rachel Poole and Jeannette Carawan of Goldsboro, friends of the bride; Amanda Grantham of Goldsboro, friend of the couple; Hannah Mitchell and Elizabeth Murray of Raleigh, cousins of the bride; and Amanda Overton of Goldsboro, sister of the groom.

Noah Overton of Pikeville, brother of the groom and Josh Tyndall of Goldsboro, friend of the groom, were best men.

Groomsmen were Matt Bartlett of Princeton and Adam Combs, Gage Haveri and Jared Grantham of Goldsboro, friends of the couple; Will Futrelle and Jacob Paugh of Goldsboro, friends of the groom; and Austin Mitchell of Goldsboro, brother of the bride.

James Sanders of Goldsboro was an usher’s assistant.

Kelsey Sanders of Goldsboro was assistant to the bridal party.

Avery Ryan, friend of the bride, was flower girl. Zander Reyes, nephew of the groom, was ringbearer.

Leigh Sanders of Goldsboro directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Abby Haveri of Goldsboro. Taylor Stovall of Pikeville distributed programs.

Jay Mitchell of Raleigh, uncle of the bride, was aisle runner placer.

Pastor Donnie Kearney, uncle of the groom, said a prayer of blessing and spiritual leadership over the groom.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a dinner reception at Rosewood First Baptist Church Braswell Hall. Assisting were Emmy Haveri, Kirsten Stovall and team.

After their wedding trip to Wilmington, the couple will reside in Goldsboro. They will take a cruise to Mexico in the fall.

Events held before the wedding included an around-the-house shower March 7 at Saulston Fire Department hosted by Phyllis Woodard and Ernestine Hardee; a lingerie party April 8 at the home of Monica Beushauson hosted by Elizabeth Murray; a wedding shower May 2 at Whitley Church hosted by Amanda Grantham and the illuminate staff; a prayer breakfast May 8 at Whitley Church hosted by Jacob Paugh, Keith Combs and the Encounter Drama team; and a bachelorette party at the Cheesecake Factory and at the home of Elizabeth Murray of Raleigh hosted by the bridesmaids.

The groom’s parents hosted a luau-themed rehearsal dinner at Whitley Church May 21, assisted by Phyllis Woodard and Ernestine Hardee.
