RICHMOND, Va. — Caroline Elizabeth Cogdell of Richmond and Edward Adams Wheeler III of Richmond exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Franklin Phillips Jr. officiating.

The bride is the daughter of George Edward and Sherrie Elmore Cogdell of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of the late Roy Allison and Margaret Cash Cogdell of Goldsboro and Dewey Peele Elmore and the late Jestine Jackson Elmore of Clinton.

She is a 2000 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro and a 2004 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with degrees in English and psychology.

The groom is the son of Dr. Edward Adams Wheeler Jr. and Jessica Amaro Wheeler of Bristol, R.I., and the grandson of the late Ruth Bradlee and Edward Adams Wheeler of Ipswich, Mass., Francis James Amaro of Wilmington and the late Hattie Emma Amaro of Providence, R.I.

He is a 1995 graduate of Moses Brown School in Providence, a 1999 graduate of Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a 2006 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a master’s degree in business administration. He is owner of The Barrel Thief Wine Shop and Cafe in Richmond.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore an ivory gown with a trumpet/mermaid silhouette. The two layers of lace and tulle were complimented with bead work and illusion straps. The dress had a chapel-length train. She also wore pearl cluster earrings that her mother wore on her wedding day.

Her headpiece was a fingertip-length veil.

The bride carried a nosegay of ivory roses entwined with wine berries and orchids.

Kathryn Lee Wessell of Chapel Hill was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Nicole Renae Cohrs of Carrboro, Kelly Wilson Michelow and Whitney Smith Wallin of Richmond, and Margaret Corydon Wheeler and Stephanie Elizabeth Wheeler of Bristol, R.I., sisters of the groom.

Ross Robert Mattis of Richmond was best man.

Groomsmen were Dr. Edward Adams Wheeler Jr., father of the groom; Benjamin Elmore Cogdell of Raleigh and George Edward Cogdell Jr. of Charlotte, brothers of the bride; Neil Christopher Magnuson of Chapel Hill; and David Rudolph Michelow Jr. of Richmond.

Presiding at the register were Erin Johnson Lynch of Wake Forest and Amanda Kline McConeghy of Charlotte.

Jenny Remsburg Elmore of Falls Church, Va., cousin of the bride, was the Scripture and Khalil reader.

A program of wedding music was provided by McLean Turner Oakeson of Boston, friend of the couple, vocalist.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a dinner and dance reception at Willow Oaks Country Club in Richmond. Mr. and Mrs.Conrad Wessell III and Mary Ann Howell greeted guests.

After their wedding trip to Virginia, the couple will reside in Richmond. They will also take a wedding tip to Hawaii after the holidays.

Events held before the ceremony included a a weekend of festivities July 17-19 in Bristol hosted by the groom’s parents, including a cocktail party, an evening barbecue and Sunday brunch; a southern-style pig picking Aug. 21 at the home of Boots and Jenny Whitfield hosted by family and friends of the Cogdells including Steve and Barbara Elmore, Mary Ann Howell, John and Sherie Metz and Bill and Cathy Smith; an engagement celebration dance, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres Aug. 22 at Walnut Creek Country Club hosted by friends and family of the bride; a morning of golf at Lane Tree Golf Club followed by lunch hosted by the bride’s father; a Sunday brunch at the home of the bride’s parents hosted by her parents; a bridal shower Aug. 23 in First Baptist Church parlor in Goldsboro hosted by ladies of the church; a dinner at Puppetta’s Italian Restaurant hosted by Meadow Lane School’s third grade teachers and friends of the bride’s mother; a luncheon Sept. 26 at Shield House Inn in Clinton hosted by Jane Kaleel and Arleen Taylor, friends of the bride’s late maternal grandmother, Jestine Elmore of Clinton; a Mexican fiesta Oct. 17 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Warren of Dunn hosted by relatives of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Matthews and Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Jackson Jr.; a bachelorette weekend at the Cohrs’ beach cottage in Emerald Isle hosted by Nicole Cohrs and Kathryn Wessell; a bachelor weekend of events hosted by Ross Mattis; a luncheon Nov. 6 at the home of Kelly and Dave Michelow in Richmond hosted by Mary Ann Howell, Kitty Sauls and Miriam Wessell during which time the bride chose to present gifts to her attendants; and a couples shower and dinner at Cottage Row in Bowler’s Wharf, Va., at the home of Edmond and Sherry Smith hosted by P.J. and Whitney Wallin.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner Nov. 6 at The Old Bookbinder’s in Richmond.

The bride’s parents hosted a brunch Nov. 8 at the home of the couple.
