RALEIGH — Catherine Tyndall Newell of Charlottesville, Va., and Dr. Daniel Ashby Leach of Charlottesville exchanged vows Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Chapel, with the Rev. Albert O. Vannorsdall officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Howard Wilson Newell Jr. and the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. H. Durwood Tyndall and the late Jewel Crenshaw Norwood.

She graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in Raleigh, North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in Spanish and East Carolina University with a Masters in Education degree. She was presented at the 2002 Terpsichorean Ball. She is employed as a teacher at Monticello High School in Charlottesville.

The groom is the son of Wayne Leach of Brown Summit and Mrs. Barbara Ingold of Lexington, Ky., and the grandson of Jeanette Pugh and the late Alice Leach.

He graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degrees in chemical engineering and pulp and paper science and the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He is an anesthesiology resident at the University of Virginia Hospital.

The bride was escorted by her father.

Hope Crenshaw Newell of Chapel Hill, was her sister’s maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Christine Theresa Brashear of Reston, Va., Emily Constance Butler of Houston, Texas, Mary Catherine Hollowell of Raleigh and Clara Southerland Wortham of Wilmington.

Wayne Leach was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Chad Cole of Greenville, Joshua Ryals of Randleman and Howard Wilson Newell III of Norfolk, Va., brother of the bride.

Readers were Betsy Hill Owens of Nashville, great-aunt of the bride, and Hope Tyndall Hancock and Prudence Tyndall Frederick of Raleigh, aunts of the bride.

Betsy Anna Frederick of Chapel Hill and Megan Elizabeth Ryals of Randleman greeted guests.

A program of wedding music was provided by Dr. Kevin Kerstetter.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Marbles Museum.

After their wedding trip to Nassau, Bahamas, the couple will reside in Charlottesville.

Events held before the wedding included a bridesmaids’ luncheon hosted by the bride’s grandmother, aunts, Mrs. Harold Brashear and Christine Brashear and an engagement party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Barton Baldwin of Mount Olive hosted by friends.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Michael Dean’s in Raleigh.
