McGee-Still
WILMINGTON — Kara Brooke Still of Wilmington and Marshall Carter McGee of Charlotte exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Halyburton Park, with John McIntyre officiating.
The bride is the daughter of L.D. Still Jr. of Fayetteville and Sheila Eason Davis of Wilmington and the granddaughter of the late Lonell and Katye Still of Goldsboro and the late Woodrow and Ann Eason of Dudley.
She is a 1996 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School, a 2000 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a 2004 graduate of the University of Wilmington with a Master of Arts degree in English. She attends Hollins University in Roanoke, Va., for an MFA degree in screenwriting. She has worked in the motion picture and film industry as a script supervisor for eight years and is a member of the IATSE union NY local 161. She is employed in Charlotte working on the independent feature titled “The Trial,” where she is employed as the script supervisor.
The groom is the son of Gary and Susan McGee of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and the grandson of the late Dewey and Sadie McGee of Kernersville and the late Herman and Myra Morris of Washington DC.
He is a 1988 graduate of South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte. The groom has worked for 16 years in the motion picture and film industry as a boom operator in the sound department. He is a member of the IATSE union local 491. He is currently employed on Lifetime’s TV series “Army Wives,” which films in Charleston, S.C., as the boom operator.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore an ivory charmeuse V-neck halter gown with a ruched surplice bodice and a beaded embroidered dropped waist. The godet chapel train, adorned with beaded embroidered appliqués, was bustled under for the reception.
Her headpiece was a hand-made ivory elbow-length one-tiered veil edged in matching beaded embroidery to the gown’s drop waist.
The bride carried a bouquet of white standard calla lilies.
Brandy Marriner was her cousin’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Jessica Sheaffer and Dawn Williams, friends of the bride.
Gary McGee was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Parker McGee, brother of the groom, and Steve Smith, friend of the groom.
Robi Irasi, nephew of the groom, was the usher.
Colleen McGee and Morgan McGee, nieces of the groom, were flower girls.
Candie Marriner, cousin of the bride, directed the wedding, assisted by Logan Taylor, friend of the couple, who was also fish wrangler. Presiding at the register were Sara and Gracie Morris, friends of the bride. Zsejke Irasi, niece of the groom, distributed the programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by
Da Howlies, an Hawaiian lounge band.
Following the ceremony, a reception was at Halyburton Park’s event center.
After their wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple will reside in Wilmington.
Events held before the wedding included a luau engagement party in May at Sleepy Creek Clubhouse hosted by JoAnn and Brooks Marriner, aunt and uncle of the bride, and Brent and Candie Marriner, cousins of the bride; a lingerie party in June at the home of the bride’s mother in Wilmington hosted b y Brandy Marriner; an engagement pool party in August at the home of the bride’s aunt in Charlotte hosted by the bride’s aunt, Linda Turner, and cousins Jay, Scott, Karen and Chris Eason; and a bachelorette party in August in Myrtle Beach, S.C., hosted by Brandy Marriner.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Buddha Room at Indochine A Far East Cafe in Wilmington.
