DURHAM — Contessa Lavern Moore and Tremaine Joseph Sawyer of Durham exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. at Doubletree Guest Suites Durham, with the Rev. Reginald Van Stephens officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Xavier and Cynthia Cason of Durham and the granddaughter of the late Franklin and Gwen Cason and the late John and Josephine Moore of Winton.

She attended North Carolina Central University. She is employed at Orange County Department of Social Services.

The groom is the son of Joseph C. Sawyer Jr. and Shelia Love Sawyer of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Rev. Joseph and Etta Turner Sawyer of Kinston, Ulysses and Eula Ware of Fayetteville and Janie Love and the late William Love of Mebane.

He is a 2003 graduate of North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration. He is employed as a community support team leader with TRIUMPH in Durham.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a formal strapless gown with a scalloped neckline and a fitted bodice and flare silhouette.

Her headpiece was a cathedral-length veil attached to a comb of pearls.

The bride carried a bouquet of roses.

Shannon Thomas of Durham was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Eryn Thomas, Queenetta Moore and Shayla Moore.

Joseph Sawyer was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were David Cason, brother of bride, and Travis Hill and Donell Moore, friends of the groom.

Ushers were Ricardo Santana, Torrey Price and Rodney Beairs

L’Oreal Dowell, goddaughter of groom, and Aniyah Moore, cousin of the bride, were flower girls. Jaylen Moore, son of the bride, was ringbearer.

Lesherl Stoudermire and Tonya Beairs distributed programs.

Special helpers were Carrie Vinson, godmother of bride, and Sandra K. Johnson, godmother of groom.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception dinner at Doubletree Guest Suites.

After their wedding trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple will reside in Durham.

Events held before the ceremony included a bridal shower Sept. 12 hosted by bridesmaids; a bachelor party Sept. 24 hosted by groomsmen; and a meet and greet celebration at the home of the groom’s parents hosted by Dr. Tracie Sawyer Clark, sister of the groom.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner Sept. 24 at the Clubhouse in Durham.
