Kornegay - Strickland
FOUR OAKS — Mary Edythe Strickland and Travis Lee Kornegay exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at Tuscarora Boy Scout Camp’s outdoor amphitheater, with the Rev. Gary Bailey officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Donnie Massey and Olivia King Strickland of Goldsboro, the granddaughter of Ada Rose Jones of Goldsboro, the late Norwood Ozias Strickland of Hookerton and the late Eddice Randolph and Martha White King of Mount Olive and the stepgranddaughter of William Eugene Jones of Goldsboro.
She graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She attends North Carolina State University for a Master of Science degree in zoology and is conducting research on bird populations in Puerto Rico for her master’s project.
The groom is the son of Thomas Lawrence and Sherrie Laws Kornegay of Goldsboro, the grandson of Cecil Lawrence and Annie Marie Kornegay and Alvin Lee Sr. and Peggy Davis Laws of Goldsboro and the great-grandson of Mary Laws of Grantham.
He the graduated from Rosewood High School and Wayne Community College with an associate of science degree. He attends North Carolina State University in the department of fisheries and wildlife science.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore her mother’s white formal gown of silk sata peau and Venise lace with an empire waist, sheer bodice, high Victorian neckline and leg-o-mutton sleeves. Lace appliqués encircling the waist were on the front and back of the bodice. The A-line skirt, scalloped with lace appliqués and a ruffle, fell into a full-length chapel train.
Her headpiece was a handmade white fascinator flower in her hair and a shoulder-length veil with a satin corded edge.
The bride carried a bouquet of jade roses, green hypericum, green viburnum, white freesia and stephanotis.
Kaitlin Hester was her friend’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Ilma Dancourt and Lauren Wooten, friends of the bride, and Perri King, cousin of the bride.
Lawrence Kornegay was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Tommy Kornegay, brother of the groom, and Anthony Garner and Rocky Barnes, friends of the groom.
Ushers were Will Hester, Jeremy Tillman, Justin Minshew and Gentry Minshew, friends of the groom.
Rylee Blackmon was flower girl. Thomas Kornegay was ringbearer.
Jackie King directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and distributing programs was Kristen Ezzell.
A program of wedding music was provided by Gigi Lovell, vocalist, and Eric Lovell, guitarist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at R.A. Bryan Dining Hall at Camp Tuscarora.
After their wedding trip to Ireland and Rome, Italy, the couple will reside in Raleigh.
Events held before the wedding included a dinner party July 30 at La Paz Restaurant hosted by the Charity Sunday school class of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church; a wedding shower Aug. 2 hosted by Walker Memorial Church in Seven Springs; and a bridesmaids’ luncheon Aug. 8 at the Royal Tea Room hosted by Jackie King, Debbe King and Martha King, during which time the bride chose to present gifts to her attendants.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the OA Lodge at Camp Tuscarora.
