Emily Louise Holt and Marcellus James Best III exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Andrew Ross Clark officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Edgar Alexander Holt III and Yvonne Stokes Holt of Goldsboro, the stepdaughter of Pamela Miller Holt and the granddaughter of Edgar Alexander Holt Jr. and Lena Futrelle Holt of Princeton and Louise Forrest Miller of Goldsboro.

She graduated from Rosewood High School in 2000, Wayne Community College with an associate degree in art education and East Carolina University with honors with a bachelor’s degree in art education. She is employed as an art teacher at South Lenoir High School and as an aerobics instructor at For Women Only.

The groom is the son of Marcellus James Best Jr. and Kathryn Gooden Best of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Marcellus James Best II and Janet Sanborn Best of Goldsboro and Shelby Jean of Elizabethtown and the late Columbus Bennett Gooden of Elizabethtown.

He graduated from the McCallie School in Tennessee in 2002 and Samford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Samford University. He attends East Carolina University for his MBA degree. He is employed at Best Commercial Development.

The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father.

She wore a white Casablanca dress with a high front neckline, cap sleeves and an empire waistline. The back of the dress had a mermaid-style chapel train with multi layers of organza. The dress was decorated with beaded lace.

Elizabeth Holt Hall of Wallace was matron of honor, while Mary Brooks Daly of Mount Olive was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Jennifer Lyn Bateman, Jennifer Draughon Baynes and Emily McArn Best of Goldsboro and Nicole Mitchell Draughon of Raleigh.

Marcellus James Best Jr. was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Lewis Bennett Best of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Samuel Porter Best of Chattanooga, Tenn., Logan Edward Davis of Meridian, Miss., Joseph Tyler Fuqua of Birmingham, Ala,, and Mark Douglas Richmond of Greenville, S.C.

Ushers were Thomas Carmichael Brock of Birmingham and Caleb Prentice Stabler of Chattanooga.

Jane Alexander Jeffreys and Anne Graysen Jeffreys were flower girls. Jackson Hayes Hall and Frank Sanborn Best Jr. were ringbearers.

Isabelle Doss directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Virginia Katherine Best. Ethan Blake Hall and Sarah Talbot Best distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Dr. Jeremy Ernest Thompson, organist, and Robert J. White, bagpiper.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Walnut Creek Country Club.

After a wedding trip, the couple reside in Goldsboro.

Events held before the wedding included a stock-the-bar party hosted by Jane Jeffreys, Missy Best and Catherine Eagles; a pamper-the-bride shower hosted by Lauren Richter, Brooks Daly, Kate Daniels and Jennifer Bateman; a tea hosted by Presbyterian church ladies Anna Best Lee, Kathryn Spicer, Helen Jernigan, Barbara Novicki and Rosalyn Lomax; a kitchen and recipe shower hosted by Kay Meadows; a miscellaneous shower hosted by the Forrest family; a bridesmaids’ luncheon hosted by the bride’s mother and Edwina Oliver, aunt of the bride; and a wedding eve party at Walnut Creek Country Club hosted by family and friends.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Walnut Creek Country Club.
