BURLINGTON — Jennifer Leigh Russell and Dr. Jeffrey Todd Kornegay exchanged vows in a double-ring outdoor ceremony Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. at the home of the bride’s parents, with the Rev. Chris Currie and the Rev. Clayton Sutton, friend of the groom, officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Edwin Russell and the granddaughter of Lee Russell and the late Mrs. Larry Russell of Burlington and the late Mr. and Mrs. Broughton Jenkins of Santee, S.C.

She is a graduate of East Rowan High School and East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. She is employed as an occupational therapist at Pitt County Memorial Hospital of Greenville.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Hervy Basil Kornegay Sr. and the grandson of Hazel Kornegay, the late Adolph Kornegay and the late Mr. and Mrs. Hervy Battle Kornegay of Calypso.

He is a graduate of North Duplin High School, East Carolina University magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology and Brody School of Medicine. He is an internal medicine resident at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a white silk strapless gown with a semi-chapel train, gently draped bodice and wheat-gold sash. The fingertip-length veil was her mother’s heirloom lace.

The bride carried a bouquet of roses, bouvardia, lady’s mantle, seeded eucalyptus and hypericum berries.

Nikkolette Corl of Salisbury, friend of the couple, and Abby Walker of Salisbury, college roommate of the bride, were matrons of honor.

Bridesmaids were Megan Beach of Hamilton, N.J., Dawn Maddox of Lynchburg, Va., Shea Overcash of Salisbury and Jamie Winter of Spivey’s Corner, friends of the bride, and Kelly Kornegay of Greenville, sister-in-law of the groom.

Dr. Hervy Kornegay Sr. was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Dr. Hervy Kornegay Jr. of Goldsboro, and Dr. Chad Kornegay, Jon Kornegay and Paul Kornegay of Greenville, brothers of the groom; Billy Kornegay of Raleigh, uncle of the groom; and Scott Russell of Morehead City, brother of the bride.

The Michael Katlow Group directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Laura Bailey and Danielle Sturm of Raleigh, cousins of the bride.

A program of wedding music was provided by Steele Sasser, friend of the groom, pianist, and Pam Kelly, former violin teacher of the groom, and Chad, Jon and Paul Kornegay, brothers of the groom, violinists.

Following the ceremony, an outdoor reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents.

After a wedding trip to Maui, Hawaii, the couple reside in Greenville.

Events held before the wedding included a barbecue dinner Oct. 7 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Delano Hill of Mount Olive hosted by the Hills and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harrell; a luncheon and tool and garden shower Oct. 7 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Skippy Jackson of Faison hosted by the Jacksons, Shirlie Gaskins, Mr. and Mrs. David Shelton, Henry Taylor, Kurstin Bauknecht and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Wolfe; a miscellaneous shower Sept. 30 at Calypso Presbyterian Church hosted by women of the church and friends; a Pampered Chef party Sept. 8 at the home of Kelly Kornegay of Greenville hosted by Mrs. Kornegay; a dinner Aug. 19 at the home of the groom’s parents hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Waters, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hargrove, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kornegay and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Davis, great-uncles and great-aunts of the groom; a miscellaneous shower Aug. 18 in Burlington hosted by women of Long’s Chapel Church; a bridal shower Aug. 4 at the home of Crystal McFarling of Burlington hosted by Mrs. McFarling, Anne Russell and Leisha Stokes; and a bridesmaids’ weekend June 7 though 10 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., hosted by attendants.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner Oct. 19 catered by the Chop House at Best Western Burlington.
