Christy Dale Stafford and Ryan Christopher Spell exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Andrew Clark and Pastor Ryan Rasmussen officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Curtis and Joan Stafford of Pikeville and the granddaughter of Linda Brock, the late William Earl Brock, Mary Elizabeth Stafford and the late Dewitt Stafford of Pikeville.

She is a 2002 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2006 graduate of Campbell University with a degree in elementary education. She is employed as a teacher with Wayne County Public Schools.

The groom is the son of Randy and Susan Spell of Atlanta, Ga., and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Resin Cass Spell, the late Ellen Spell and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Taylor of Georgia.

He graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 2002 and Appalachian State in 2006 with a degree in music education. He is employed as a teacher with Wayne County Public Schools.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a satin gown flared with a trumpet-style skirt. The bodice had a swoop to the neckline. The waistline was accented with a pink satin ribbon that wrapped around into a double-layered bow, whose center was embellished with a crystal-beaded broach. The ribbon trailed down the sweep train.

Her headpiece was a single-layered tulle veil attached to a veil embellished with scalloped edges trimmed in white beads.

The bride carried a clutch bouquet of pink hydrangeas, pink roses, white lisianthus with pink tips and tree fern. It was surrounded with ruscus and tree fern and was wrapped with satin ribbon. She also carried a family wedding Bible, the cover was made from her mother’s wedding gown.

Lauren Hottel of Raleigh was her college sorority sister’s matron of honor, while Kaitlyn Stafford of Pikeville, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Melinda Pearce of Raleigh, college sorority sister of the bride; Lydia Pratt of Virginia, college friend; and Cassie Spell of Georgia, sister of the groom.

Curtis Stafford was his son’s best man.

Ushers were Kevin Coghill, friend of the couple; Tony Jones of Pikeville, uncle of the bride; and Steven Jones and Brock Strickland of Pikeville, cousins of the bride.

Abigail Ingle of Goldsboro was flower girl. John Avery Sasser of Pikeville was ringbearer.

Brownie Doss of Goldsboro directed the wedding, assisted by Candy Whitley of Goldsboro and Lynda Stewart of Fremont. Presiding at the register was Dana Jones of Pikeville, cousin of the bride. Taylor Strickland of Pikeville, cousin of the bride, distributed programs.

Barbara Novicki and Dan Wise of Goldsboro were Scripture readers.

A program of wedding music was provided by Jeremy Thompson, organist and pianist; Jared and Amanda Grantham and Benton Whitley, vocalists; and Larry Harvey, Matt Talbert and Chris Serina, trumpeters.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a dessert and dance reception at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderson of Goldsboro greeted guests. Stephanie Trotter of Georgia, Patti Spell of Alabama and Barbara Chenier of Goldsboro cut the wedding cake. Dr. and Mrs. Bob Meyer said thank-yous. Nicole Grimes and Katie Stafford, cousins of the bride, distributed bubbles and wedding favors.

After a wedding trip to Disney World, Fla., the couple reside in Goldsboro.

Events held before the wedding included a bridesmaids’ luncheon Aug. 3 hosted by Brownie Doss, Candy Whitley and Lynda Stewart during which time the bride presented gifts to her attendants; a girls’ morning out Aug. 2; a bachelor party July 28 hosted by friends of the groom; a bachelorette party July 28 hosted by Lauren Hottel, Melinda Pearce, Vanessa Bailey, Sarah Wallace and friends of the bride; a lingerie party July 26 hosted by Helen and Hannah Jernigan; an around-the-clock shower July 21 hosted by Missy Ingle, Debbie Sealey, Linda Meyer, Sue Woodyard, Barbara Novicki and church family friends; a miscellaneous shower July 7 hosted by Stephanie Trotter and Susan Spell, family of the groom; a kitchen shower June 16 in Raleigh hosted by Lauren Hottel; a miscellaneous shower June 2 hosted by Lynn Strickland, Debbie Jones, Pam Pennington, Mary Elizabeth Stafford and Linda Brock, family of the bride; and a surprise shower at Texas Steakhouse hosted by co-workers of the groom.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at the Steak Barn. The groom chose this time to present gifts to his attendants.
