WILSON — Carrie Leigh Mitchell and Robert Paul Gay exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony July 14 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, with Scott Dodson officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Lee Edward Mitchell III and Terri Mitchell of Wilson and the granddaughter of the late Williard Alexander McKever and Adelia Carrie McKever of Mitchellville, Iowa, and Katie Rose Mitchell and the late L.E. Mitchell Jr. of Goldsboro.

She graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in Hispanic studies education. She is employed as a Spanish teacher at Darden and Speight Middle Schools of Wilson County.

The groom is the son of William “Shag” and Besty Dunn Gay of Fremont and the grandson of Betty Louise Gay and the late George Washington Gay of Farmville and Robert and Sheria Sasser Dunn of Fremont.

He is employed as a paint wholesale specialist at Sherwin Williams of Wilson.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

Katie Mitchell and Lindsay Tant were maids of honor.

Bridesmaids were Jennifer Patz, Paula Shearon and Ravyn Perry.

William “Shag” Gay was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Steven Gay, William A. Gay, Matthew Pippen and Jamie Proctor.

Ushers were Ryan Howard, Vincent Lively, Ashley Williford and Shannon Proctor.

Emily Joy Whitener was flower girl. Kodi Shilabi was ringbearer.

Pet Pruden directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Daniel Herring. Morgan Herring and Paige Herring distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Phillip Matthews, pianist.

Following the ceremony, Brenda Smith, Beverly Foss, Deborah Wells, Sheila Herring, Michelle Weatherford and Jennifer Clark, aunts and cousins of the bride, held a reception in the fellowship hall.

After a wedding trip to Chicago, the couple reside in Fremont.

Events held before the wedding included a bachelorette party July 7 in Raleigh hosted by friends of the bride and the bridesmaids; a bridal shower June 3 at Spring Hill Baptist Church hosted by the bride’s aunts and grandmother; a bridal shower May 27 hosted by Katie Mitchell and Lindsay Tant; a pounding shower May 6 at the home of the groom’s mother hosted by his mother; and a bridal shower April 27 at the home of the bride’s mother hosted by Teresa Woodard, godmother of the bride, and the bride’s mother.

The groom’s parents and Ida Gay held a rehearsal dinner.
