KINSTON — Shannon Smith of LaGrange and Doug Whaley exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 30 at 5 p.m. at Falling Creek Country Club, with Pastor Jimmy Sawers officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Jimmy R. Smith of Goldsboro and Malissa M. Smith of LaGrange and the granddaughter of the late Donald and Judy Smith of Raleigh, Lorita C. Fulghum of LaGrange and the late Ronald Fulghum of Seven Springs.

The groom is the son of Horace Leon Whaley and Rosalind Whaley of LaGrange and the grandson of Dorothy Whaley, the late Horace Whaley and the late Emmitte and Brownie Bailey of Kinston.

He graduated from North Lenoir High school. He is employed as a molder at West Pharmaceuticals.

The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father.

She wore a long white satin gown with apple-colored trim around the waist and along the train.

Her headpiece was a silver and pearl tiara.

The bride carried red and white roses.

Mary Whaley was matron of honor, while Amanda Pate was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Leslee Rouse, Samantha Dunford, Tabatha Smith and Shauntay Kirkman.

Leon Whaley was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Michael L. Whaley, Daniel Mullins, Ray Bostic, Clayton Harrington and Joseph Byrd.

Scotty Johnson was the usher.

Aaliyah Johnson was the junior bridesmaid.

Summer Mullins and Breanna Johnson were flower girls. Crews, Malachi and Douglas Whaley Jr., were ringbearers.

Pam Bryant directed the wedding.

A program of wedding music was provided by Joshua Deaver.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Falling Creek Country Club.

After a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., the couple reside in LaGrange.

Events held before the wedding included a bachelorette party June 23 in Myrtle Beach hosted by Mary Whaley and the bridesmaids; a bachelor party June 16 in Myrtle Beach; and a shower March 17 hosted by the bride’s mother.

The groom’s mother held a rehearsal dinner at Falling Creek Country Club.
