MOREHEAD CITY — Meredith Blaire Hardee and Wade Alan Layton of Goldsboro exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 16 at 4 p.m. at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. John B. Pollock officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Glenn Hardee of Kinston and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rae Branch of Durham and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Glenn Hardee of Kinston.

She is a graduate of Kinston High School, North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in arts applications and an emphasis in music, Meredith College with an elementary education certification and East Carolina University with a Master of Arts in education in instructional technology. She is employed as a teacher at Eastern Wayne Elementary School.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ronald Layton of Kinston and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ray Layton of Tennille, Ga., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Everett Lellon Fellows of DeKalb Junction, N.Y.

He a graduate of Kinston High School, North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management and a concentration in finance and East Carolina University with a master’s degree in business administration. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He is employed as a commercial business banking consultant at BB&T.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore an ivory strapless mermaid-style French-designed duchess satin gown adorned with an overlay of lace appliqués, pearls and Swarovski crystals. It featured a chapel-length train.

Her headpiece was a cathedral ivory tulle veil enhanced with pearls, a pencil edging and a fingertip ivory blusher.

The bride carried a bouquet of ivory long-stem roses tied with ivory satin ribbon and pearl pins.

Elizabeth Ann Hardee of Greenville was her sister’s maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Caron Elizabeth Carter of Raleigh, Kristi Janelle Farmer of Nashville, Tenn., Lauren Elizabeth Gibson of Kinston and Lisa Elizabeth Kivett and Jessica Elaine Sutton of Raleigh.

James Ronald Layton was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Joel VanVleet Gilmore of Kinston, James Eric Layton of Charleston, S.C., brother of the groom, Kenneth Jason Ramsey of Raleigh and Adam Dane Sebastian and Lynwood Earl Williams III of Winston-Salem.

Alyssa Marie Godbey and Peyton Elizabeth Godbey of Leeland, cousins of the bride, were flower girls.

Barbara Gurley of Kinston directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Joy Gurley Ramey of Winterville. Caroline Garriss Nicholson of Ayden distributed programs.

Blake Everett Herring and James Bradley Herring of Kinston, cousins of the bride, were torchbearers.

Louis Christopher Layton of Tennille, Ga., cousin of the groom, was the crucifer.

Michael Lynn Gay Jr. of Wilson and Edward Brandt Kronberg of Columbia, S.C., were Scripture readers.

Dustin Taylor of Manassas Park, Va., and Edwin Edmunds Bouldin III of Winston-Salem greeted guests.

Nancy Carter Gilmore of Kinston was the bridal assistant.

A program of wedding music was provided by C. Thomas Midyette of Beaufort, organist.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort. Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Joseph Gilmore and Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Paul McMurray greeted guests. Deborah Hardee Herring of Kinston, aunt of the bride, cut the wedding cake. MacKenzie Rae DeBruhl and Caroline Elizabeth DeBruhl of Kinston were reception attendants.

After a wedding trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple reside in Goldsboro.

Events held before the wedding included a bridesmaids’ luncheon June 15 at Clawson’s Restaurant of Beaufort hosted by Karen DeBruhl, Bern Gibson, Diane Hardee and Kim McMurray; a bachelorette weekend May 18 through 20 in Charleston hosted by Caron Carter and Elizabeth Hardee; a bachelor weekend May 11 through 13 in Wrightsville Beach hosted by Eric Layton and Lyn Williams; a wedding shower May 5 at First Pentecostal Holiness Church fellowship hall of Kinston hosted by friends of the bride; a cocktail party April 28 at the home of the groom’s parents hosted by the groom’s parents; a lunch and lingerie shower April 7 at The Big Easy in Raleigh hosted by Nancy Gilmore, Elizabeth Hardee, Lisa Kivett and Jessica Sutton; and an engagement party April 6 at Havana Deluxe in Raleigh hosted by friends of the couple.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner June 15 at Shepard’s Point Restaurant in Morehead City.
