MOREHEAD CITY — Meredith Ashley Smith of San Diego, Calif., and Nathan Warren McElmurry of Laguna Beach, Calif., exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Billy F. Seate officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Marshall Smith of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Grace Howell Smith and the late John Lee Smith of Goldsboro and Dorothy Hood Bryan and the late James Edward Bryan of Goldsboro.

She a graduate of Goldsboro High School, Duke University with an undergraduate degree and the University of Texas in Austin with an MBA degree. She is employed as a consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton of San Diego.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Emmett McElmurry of Houston, Texas, and the grandson of Col. Thomas Uriel McElmurry and the late Katherine Massey McElmurry and Col. Franklin Wilbur Swann and the late Margaret Manson Swann of Houston.

He graduated from high school in Houston, Texas A&M University with an undergraduate degree and the University of Texas in Austin with an MBA degree. He is employed in the commercial real estate division at General Electric of Irvine, Calif.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore her mother’s formal white satin wedding gown with a detachable train.

A fingertip veil of silk illusion was attached to a silver headband of pearls and flowers.

Claire Butler Delong of New York City, N.Y., served as her college roommate’s matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Beth Wilson Bowman of Wake Forest, friend; Robin Alger Cherry of Cambridge, Mass., Erica Brynes Hill of Durham and Ellen Lee McCance of New York City, college friends; Kodi Cage Sisson of Austin, friend of the bride; and Alison Elizabeth McElmurry of Sugarland, Texas, Kelly McElmurry Stanka, of Fulshear, Texas, and Melissa Paige McElmurry of Houston, sisters of the groom.

Dr. Stephen Emmett McElmurry was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Thomas Edward Flader of Houston, Jason Reeves Mills of Austin and Richard Emil Mason of Waco, Texas, college friends; Brent Thomas Funston of Los Angles, Calif., and Michael Shelby Pruett of Jackson, Wyo., friends; and Jonathan Charles McElmurry and Luke Andrew McElmurry of Houston and Joseph Bradley McElmurry of Las Vegas, Nev., brothers of the groom.

Rebecca May Judge of Kula, Hawaii, college friend, was the reader.

Audrey Dow Stanka and Ashley Emerson Stanks, nieces of the groom, were flower girls.

Cecilia Budd Grimes directed the wedding. Evelyn Pappas-Spiliotis and Dr. Amanda Stein Carmel, college friends of the bride, distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Diane Finan of Goldsboro, former piano teacher of the bride, pianist, and Parker Smith Swann of Lexington, cousin of the groom, vocalist.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Beaufort Historic Site in Beaufort. Nancy Locker Creech of Raleigh and Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Gaylor III of Goldsboro greeted guests.

After a wedding trip to French Polynesia, the couple reside in Corona Delmar, Calif.

Events held before the wedding included a Sunday morning send-off hosted by friends and a bridesmaids’ luncheon Sept. 23 at Spouter Inn.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Beaufort Grocery Sept. 22.
