Megan Leigh Smith and Aubrey Joseph Hartzog of Grimesland exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Gene M. Carpenter officiating.

The bride is the daughter of James Hilliard and Armine Petrossian Smith of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of the late James Hilliard and Evelyn Brown Smith of Goldsboro and the late Harutiun and Sirvart Bahador Petrossian.

She is a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She is employed as judicial assistant at the Pitt County district court judge’s office.

The groom is the son of Rex Harrol and Lelia Marie Wrightson Hartzog of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late James Aubrey Hartzog of Opp, Ala., Mary Emma Lenard of Ozark, Ala., and the late Lionel Joseph and Lula Mae Holbert Wrightson of Plymouth.

He graduated from Southern Wayne High School and Wayne Community College with a certificate in basic law enforcement training. He is employed as a law enforcement officer with the city of Greenville.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore an ivory luster satin spaghetti strap gown with blue accent above the bodice and blue cathedral train. The bodice was embroidered with pearl and crystal beading with blue sequins lace-up in the back.

She carried a nosegay of blue hydrangea and white lisianthus.

Leigh Howell of Dudley was the matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Patricia Smith of Linwood, N.J., and Jessica Hartzog of Dudley.

Rex Harrol Hartzog was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Robert Wright of Greenville and Craig Wolfe of Durham.

Rachel Howell and Peyton Hartzog were flower girls. Cameron Jernigan was ringbearer.

Peggy Brown and Ethel Barnhill directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Bergen Hartzog and Cooper Hartzog. James D. Smith and Thomas H. Smith distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by William Hayes, organist, and Barry Bauguess, trumpeter.

Following the ceremony, a dinner reception was held in the church parish hall.

After a wedding cruise to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize and Costa Mayo, Mexico, the couple reside in Grimesland.

Events held before the wedding included a bridal party Aug. 25 at Goldsboro Country Club hosted by Peggy Brown, Ethel Barnhill, Sarah Thomas, Anne Campbell, Charlotte Campbell, Shaheen Malekpour and Sue McDonald; a spa day Aug. 24 at Fashion Nails; and a luncheon Aug. 24 at the home of the bride’s parents.

The groom’s parents held a barbecue rehearsal dinner Aug. 25 at their home.
