WINSTON-SALEM — Martha Porterfield Bennett and Samuel Daughtry Metzler were married at 6 p.m. June 10 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

The Rev. Don Goodheart and Pastor Tyler Jones officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Graham Bennett of Winston-Salem. Her maternal grandparents are Mrs. W. Maurice Bowman of Burlington and the late Mr. Bowman. Her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bennett of Pfafftown.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marty Metzler of Goldsboro. His maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Daughtry of Asheboro. His paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Metzler.

The bride was escorted by her father.

The maid of honor was Ashley Lynn Pitt of Cornelius. Bridesmaids were Katherine Ruth Ambis of Ithaca, N.Y., Margaret McNeely Curtis of Mooresville, Ivey Jackson Furnas, Rebekah Grace Fulton, Buffy Sloan Smith and Catherine Reddick Whitehill of Durham, Alyson Bobbitt Jamison of Atlanta, Ga., Elizabeth Triplett-Martin of Winston-Salem, Joanna Rachelle Reule of Charlotte, Catherine Elizabeth Sherrill of Chapel Hill and Christin McGovern Stevens of Raleigh.

The best man was the groom’s father. Groomsmen were Mark Daughtry Metzler of Raleigh, brother of the groom; Stephen Bowman Bennett of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Graham Flanagan Bennett of Winston-Salem, brothers of the bride; and Bryan T. Hancock and Graham John Wooten of Goldsboro, Greg Sean Hook, John Harrison Merritt, Matthew Aaron Moore and Mark Russell Simmerson of Chapel Hill and Timothy Kivett Franklin of Harkers Island.

Lucy Paynter was the wedding director. Honorary bridesmaids and program and guest register attendants were the bride’s cousin, Caroline Ruth Stubblefield, and Eliza Bouldin Peebles.

Wedding music was provided by organist and cellist Tom Guth, double bassist Elizabeth Guth, cousin of the groom, violinist Susan Perkins, and soloist and guitarist John Merritt.

After a wedding trip to Mexico, the couple is residing in Chapel Hill.

The couple graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The bride is employed as a teacher’s assistant at Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville. The groom works for the University of North Carolina System.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Graylyn Estate.

A bridesmaids’ luncheon was held at Rondthaler-Gramley House of Old Salem.

Several parties were given by family and friends, including a dinner held in Goldsboro by Sissy and Tommy Bell, Mary Ann and Jim Parker, Kim and Henry Smith and Lucy and Bill Warren.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Old Town Club, followed by a wedding eve dance given by friends of the bride’s family.

The bride’s grandparents held an engagement party.
