MOUNT OLIVE — April Michele Westbrook and Shelton Boyd Johnson were united in marriage Saturday, May 13, at 3 p.m.

The Rev. Marvin Bryant and the Rev. Betty Edwards officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Friendly Holiness Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Ronald and Diane Westbrook of Newton Grove are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of Jean Pate of Pikeville and the late Rev. and Mrs. Graham Westbrook of Newton Grove.

Shelton and Janie Johnson of Newton Grove are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Boyd and Catherine Smith of Newton Grove and the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Johnson of Grantham.

Escorted by her mother, the bride wore a candlelight gown with a strapless neckline. The fitted bodice was embellished with beaded lace accented with an asymmetrical waistline. The A-line skirt was beaded with a lace insert panel. The back bodice had a lace-up corset and cascaded into a semi-cathedral train enhanced with a lace panel adorned with pearls and sequins.

For her headpiece, she chose a tiara of rhinestones that extended into a two-tiered veil of silk illusion fashioned with bugle beads and sequins on the edge. She carried a bouquet of spring flowers of pink yellow, blue and white.

Allison Jordan of Clinton, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Amanda Barefoot of Greenville, cousin of the bride; Tina Johnson of Newton Grove and Terra Rouse of Florence, sisters of the groom; and Jessica Matthews of Greenville, Amanda Jordan of Clinton and Mrs. Jordan Williams of Newton Grove, friends of the bride.

Shelton Johnson was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Alan Westbrook of Netwon Grove, brother of the bride; Aaron Rose of Wilmington, cousin of the bride; Bo Rouse of Florence, brother-in-law of the groom; and J.J. Garnett of Hope Mills, friend of the groom.

Teresa Wolf of Clinton, friend of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Mr. and Mrs. Danny Rose, uncle and aunt of the bride.

A program of wedding music was provided by Rose Moore of Mount Olive, pianist; Dr. Henry Goodman of Clayton, violinist; and Ashley Hartley of Mount Olive, friend of the bride, vocalist.

After a wedding trip to Riveria Maya, Mexico, the couple is residing in Greenville.

The bride is a 2002 graduate of Hobbton High School and a 2006 graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She will be employed as an RN at Pitt Memorial Hospital’s cardiac surgical intensive care unit in July.

The groom graduated from Hobbton High School in 2000 and East Carolina University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. He attends East Carolina University’s graduate program for wood design.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall.

On May 12, the groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at the Brass Lantern of Dunn.

Brenda Sullivan and Teresa Johnson held a bridesmaids’ luncheon April 29 at the Sullivan home in Selma.

On April 9, family and friends of the groom held a miscellaneous shower at Newton Grove Baptist Church.

Allison Jordan, Amy Lee and Amanda Jordan held a lingerie shower March 31 at the Lee home.

On March 12, family and friends of the bride held a miscellaneous shower at Friendly Holiness Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
