SEDONA — Nicole Therese Valdez and Ian Marcus Strickland of Phoenix, Ariz. said their marriage vows Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.

The Rev. Tom Loftis officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Tlaqupaque Chapel.

Parents of the bride are Richard George and Sharon Darline Pence of Phoenix. She is the granddaughter of Darline Pence and the late Charles Pence of Tinley Park, Ill., and the late Adolph Valdez and Mary White of Chicago, Ill.

The groom is the son of John Creech Sr. and Peggy Ruth Burgess Strickland of Goldsboro. He is the grandson of Thelma Daley Burgess and the late James Burgess of Battleboro and the late Robie and Alma Creech Strickland of Goldsboro.

Given in marriage and escorted by her father, the bride wore an A-line ivory organza silk gown with silver embroidered flowers along the waist and bodice.

Michele Jervell was matron of honor. Marissa Valdez was the bridesmaid.

John Strickland Jr. was best man. Zach Wagner was the groomsman.

A program of wedding music was provided by Cornelia Loftis, vocalist, and David Ice, harpist.

After a wedding trip to Ixtapa, Mexico, the couple is residing in Phoenix.

The bride is a graduate of Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in social work in 2005. She is employed as a child therapist with Southwest Human Development.

The groom graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1998 with a master’s degree in exercise and sport science, the College of Charleston in 2000 with a bachelor of science degree and Argosy University at Phoenix in 2005 with a doctorate of psychology. He is employed as a psychologist with Counseling Services.

Following the ceremony, an outdoor reception was held at Patio del Norte at Tlaqupaque.
