Julie Ann Smith of Goldsboro and Bobby Wayne Smith of LaGrange were married June 11 at 3 p.m.

The Rev. Mike Grady officiated the double-ring ceremony at Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Parents of the bride are William Roger Smith and Betty Jo Smith. She is the granddaughter of Joe Ben and Katie Sauls of Goldsboro, Mary Rachel Smith of LaGrange and the late Alton Smith.

Bobby Wayne Smith, of Kinston, and Mary Susan Miller, of LaGrange, are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of David Jennings and Mary Pelt of LaGrange and the late Mack and Joyce Smith.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a formal sleeveless gown of white satin and corded lace. It had a portrait neckline adorned with pearls and bugle beads. A Basque bodice complemented the gown. Corded lace and chiffon over satin added emphasis to the full skirt and court train. The back was an extended row of covered buttons.

For her headpiece, she chose a one-tiered fingertip-length veil with a finished satin ribbon edge. She carried a bouquet of pink roses with baby’s breath.

Stephanie Bass of Pikeville, sister of the bride, was matron of honor.

Bobby Smith was his son’s best man. Ushers were Jonathan Smith of LaGrange, brother of the bride, and Todd Willoughby of Princeton, friend of the groom.

Jean Thorne, of Fremont, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and distributing programs was Mary Smith, friend of the bride.

Lorraine Swinson of Snow Hill, aunt of the bride, served the wedding cake. Joyce Sauls, aunt of the bride, poured punch. Gray Eason, Pat Ramse, and Treva Gray greeted guests. Pete and Kay Wene, uncle and aunt of the groom, said good-byes. Michelle Stallings, friend of the bride, distributed bells.

After a wedding trip to Orlando, Fla., the couple will reside in LaGrange.

The bride is a 1997 honor graduate of Eastern Wayne High School, a 2001 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and a 2003 graduate of East Carolina University with a master of arts in teaching with a concentration in elementary education. She atttends East Carolina University for a licensure in reading education. She is employed as a teacher at Snow Hill Primary.

The groom graduated from Wayne Christian High School in 1997 and Wayne Community College in 2000 with degrees in agri-business technology and livestock and poultry technology. He is employed as a research assistant with the Department of Agriculture through Cherry Research Station.

On June 10, the groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Woods Grove Church. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.

Family and friends held a shower April 30 at Woods Grove Church.

On April 27, staff at Snow Hill Primary held a shower.

Second grade teachers held a shower at Snow Hill Primary on April 19.
