Virginia Winters Lies and Mark Jeffery Lampson Jr. exchanged their wedding vows Saturday, June 18, at 6 p.m.

The Rev. Tom Loftis officiated at the double-ring ceremony at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Parents of the bride are Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Craig Lies. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Hilliard of Durham and Dr. and Mrs. William Lies III of Dothan, Ala.

Mr. and Mrs. James Gurley of Raleigh and Mark Jeffery Lampson of Greenville are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boggs of Moultrie, Ga., and the great-grandson of Elise Boggs of Moultrie.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a candlelight Italian satin strapless gown with a dropped waistline and a chapel-length train. The bodice was embroidered with lace and scattered with sequins and seed pearls.

For her headpiece, she chose a tiara of Swarovski crystals with a double-tiered veil of chapel-length with a satin-ribbed edge scattered with Swarovski crystals. She carried a semi-cascading bouquet of red and white roses interspersed with yellow snapdragons.

Hillary Lies, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sarah Ponzi, sister of the groom; Emily Brewer, friend of the bride; Ginny Bakken of Nashville, Tenn., Katy Denault and Patty Denault of Elon and Susan McCarroll of Dothan, cousins of the bride.

Tom Lampson was his brother’s best man. Groomsmen were Joey Ponzi of Charlottesville, Va., Glen Smith of Texas and Aaron Strauch, friends of the groom. Ushers were Matthew and Patrick Finan and Spencer Lewis, friends of the couple.

Nichole Waggoner of Raleigh, friend of the couple, was the honorary bridesmaid.

Madison Gurley of Raleigh, cousin of the groom, was flower girl. Max Michel of Birmingham, Ala., cousin of the bride, was ringbearer.

Jane Walston, friend of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and reading Scriptures was Justin Bryan. Also presiding at the register were Walt Anderson, Scott Herring and Michael Newman.

A program of wedding music was provided by Mark Gourley, organist, and Dianne Finan and Walt Anderson, friends of the couple, vocalists.

After a wedding trip to Rome and a cruise to Italy, Greece and France, the couple will reside in Orlando, Fla.

The bride is a graduate of East Carolina University with a dual degree in both fine arts with a concentration in oil painting and art education.

The groom graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He will attend Full Sail, Real World Education of Winter Park, Fla., in the fall for an associate’s degree in recording arts.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Goldsboro Country Club.

On June 17, Dannie Brewer, Dianne Finan, Linda Gwatney, Diana Pike, Cora Sedlacek and Debbie Smith, members of the Read Between the Wines Book Club, held a bridal luncheon at Goldsboro Country Club.

Shirley Griffin, Cara Holland and Jane Walston, friends of the bride and her mother, held a kitchen and lingerie shower May 20.

On April 2, Dody Denault, aunt of the bride, and Dorothy Hilliard, grandmother of the bride, held a mother-daughter bridal shower.

Sarah Ponzi, sister of the groom, and the groom’s mother held a miscellaneous shower in Raleigh.

Friends and family of the bride held a rehearsal dinner at Lanetree.
