Samantha Ann Basden of Goldsboro and Matthew Gardner Overman of Goldsboro pledged their wedding vows May 21 at 3 p.m.

Neal Wingfield officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Salem United Methodist Church.

Donald and Debbie Basden of Dudley are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of Albert and Betty Williams, Doris Basden and the late Ray Basden of Dudley.

John and Lynette Overman of Pikeville are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Ted and Alice Tillman of Goldsboro and Elizabeth Overman and the late Quentin Overman of Pikeville.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless white tulle ballgown with beaded lace appliqué on the bodice and skirt, which had a chapel-length train.

For her headpiece, she chose a rhinestone tiara that belonged to her aunt, Patricia Martin. She carried a bouquet of red roses.

Lindsey Chalmers of Goldsboro, friend of the bride, was matron of honor. Stephanie Martin of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kellie Andrews of Goldsboro, friend of the bride, and Rebecca Phillips of Goldsboro, cousin of the groom.

Nathan Overman of Dallas, Texas, was his brother’s best man. Ushers were Mark Hess of Goldsboro, friend of the couple, and Chris Schmitt of Greenville, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Aaron Johnson and Adam Smith of Goldsboro, friends of the couple, and Mitchell Phillips of Goldsboro, cousin of the groom.

Alana Basden of Fuquay-Varina, cousin of the bride, was flower girl.

Sharon Dentzer, friend of the bride, directed the wedding. Megan Overman distributed programs.

Kim Basden was a special helper.

A program of wedding music was provided by Betty Kantzer, organist, and Michael Hinnant and Robert Montague, vocalists.

After a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., the couple is residing in Goldsboro.

The bride is a 2002 graduate of Southern Wayne High School. She attends East Carolina University for a bachelor’s degree in business management. She is employed with Mega Force Temporaries with Turkington APV.

The groom graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 2001 and Wayne Community College in 2004 with a degree in mechanical drafting and design. He attends East Carolina University for a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology. He is employed as a draftsman with Turkington APV.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall. Patricia Martin, aunt of the bride; LouAnn Overman and Diane Jefferson, aunts of the groom; and Nan Montague, friend of the family; served the wedding cake and poured punch.

On May 18, Jill Cardin, Susan Bartlett and Lynette Overman held a spa party.

Vicki and Rebecca Phillips held a bridal luncheon May 14 at Nino’s Italian Restaurant.

On May 13, Sandra Bond held a lingerie shower.

The bridesmaids held a wine shower April 23 at the home of Lindsey Chalmers.

On April 3, ladies of Salem Church held a shower.

Tony and Vicki Phillips held an engagement party Dec. 18.

The groom’s family held a luau rehearsal dinner at the home of Tony and Vicki Phillips, uncle and aunt of the groom.
