WASHINGTON D.C. — Elizabeth Jayne Kirkland of Washington D.C. became the bride of Michael Paul Woody of Washington D.C. Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m.

The Rev. James E. Martin III officiated at the double-ring ceremony at The Decatur House Museum.

Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Robert Parr of Goldsboro and Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Kirkland Jr. of Edina, Minn. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Russell Ernest Mullally of Lake Worth, Fla., the late Mr. Mullally, Mrs. Ronald William Record of Jaffrey, N.H., the late Mr. Record, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Kirkland of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Edward William Parr of Newark, Del., and the late Mr. Parr.

Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Yates Baker III of Raleigh and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Monroe Woody of Greenville, S.C. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Linwood Strickland, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Monroe Woody and the late Margaret Gardner Baker of Raleigh.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father and stepfather.

Amber Lineback of Charlotte was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Elizabeth Watts Sumner of Raleigh and Elizabeth Prim Formby of Washington D.C., friends of the bride; Anna Louise Kirkland of New York, N.Y., and Alice DeLaine Kirkland of Edina, sisters of the bride; and Meredith Brooke Baker of Chapel Hill, sister of the groom.

Michael Monroe Woody, father of the groom, and Thomas Yates Baker III, stepfather of the groom, were best men. Groomsmen were Neal Amos Caudle of Atlanta, Ga., Samuel Martin Cone of Charlotte, John Christopher Greenawalt of Baltimore, Md., and Donald Matthew Greenawalt of Charlottesville, Va., friends of the groom. Ushers were Stephen Christopher Collier of Atlanta and Glendon Mark Dunn of New York, friends of the groom; Bradley Monroe Woody of Savannah, Ga., Andrew Powell Woody of Spartanburg, S.C., and Thomas Yates Baker IV of Boone, brothers of the groom; and Thomas Andrew Kirkland of Las Cruces, N.M., brother of the bride.

After a wedding trip to Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Washington D.C.

The bride is a graduate of Wayne Country Day School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She is employed as a legislative assistant with U.S. Representative David Price.

The groom graduated from Ravenscroft School, Wake Forest University with a bachelor of arts degree in history and the University of Pittsburgh with a master’s degree in political science. He is employed as a policy advisor for U.S. Senator Tom Harkin.

On Nov. 12, the groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at the Army and Navy Club.

The bride’s parents held an engagement party June 12 at their home.
