PIKEVILLE — Jessica Leigh Washam of Fremont and Troy Edwin Jernigan Jr. of Pikeville were united in marriage July 31 at 2 p.m.

The Rev. Dwight Dunning officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Washam of Fremont and Leigh Anne Sasser-Washam of Pikeville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Sasser and Louise Owens Williams of Fremont, Betty J. Washam of Goldsboro, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Sutton of Apex, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Teachey of Lucama and the late Jimmy K. Washam and the great-granddaughter of Polly Gardner of Pikeville.

Mr. and Mrs. Troy Jernigan Sr. of Pikeville and Joyce Cocker-Jernigan of Goldsboro are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Coker of Pikeville, Laura Sills of Saulston and the late Joseph Henry Sills.

Given in marriage by her family and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white informal empire waist shimmering chiffon gown with a square neckline and a lace-up back. It was accented with sequins, rhinestones, satin roses and iridescent beading.

For her headpiece, she chose a fingertip-length shimmering chiffon veil accented with sequins, rhinestones and iridescent beading with a pencil edge hem. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of pink and white calla lilies and eucalyptus leaves.

Myra Gooding of Fremont, friend of the couple, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Stacie Bailey of Wilson, cousin of the bride; April Dunning of Selma, friend of the couple; and Tia Owens of Apex, stepsister of the bride.

Troy Jernigan Sr. was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Eric Jernigan of Pikeville, brother of the groom; and Leon Dunning of Selma and Jeffrey Bailey of Pikeville, friends of the couple.

Lisa Godwin directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Monica Rodriquez of Faro, friend of the bride. Tracy Owens and Trina Owens of Fremont, stepsisters of the bride, distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Camille Fredrick of Goldsboro, pianist, and Mr. and Mrs. Tim Wells and Leon Dunning, vocalists.

After a wedding trip to Orlando, Fla., the couple is residing in Goldsboro.

The bride is a 2003 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. She attends Wayne Community College. She is employed by First Baptist Daycare.

The groom graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 1996 and Wayne Community College in 1998 with an associate’s degree in applied science electronics and engineering. He is employed at Bell South as a service technician.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s family held a reception in the church family life center. Judy Taylor served the wedding cake. Renee Hollomon and Susie Teachey poured punch. Joy Sasser, Jean Hawley, Deana Spach and Dana Radford assisted.

The groom’s family held a rehearsal dinner July 30 in the church fellowship hall. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.

On July 23, Tracy, Tia and Trina Owens held a lingerie shower at the home of the bride.

A miscellaneous shower was held July 18 at Pikes Crossroads Church family life center.

On June 24, the groom’s family held a miscellaneous shower at Free Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
