DURHAM — Pauline Ruth Peek of Boone and Ashton Thomas Griffin IV of Mount Olive were wed June 26 at noon.

The Rev. Jim Dannals and the Rev. Gloria Price officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Duke University Chapel.

The bride is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Joe Frank Peek of Sumter, S.C. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John C. Cooper of Sumter and the late Mr. and Mrs. Alvin S. Peek of Knoxville, Tenn.

Parents of the groom are Dr. and Mrs. Ashton T. Griffin III and the late Bennette Daughtry Griffin of Goldsboro. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ashton T. Griffin Jr., Mrs. Benjamin James Daughtry Sr. and the late Mr. Daughtry of Goldsboro.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown of matte white satin with a sweetheart neckline and illusion fitted sleeves. The fitted bodice was embellished with lace, sequins and beaded embroidery. The A-line skirt flowed into a chapel-length train accented with scalloped lace at the hem.

For her headpiece, she chose a tiara of pearls and rhinestone with a two-tiered pencil-edged veil. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of stargazer lilies and miniature roses attached to the Bible her mother carried at her wedding.

DeAnn Henderson of Spartanburg, S.C., friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Margaret Bailey of Virginia Beach, Va., sister of the groom; Pam Light of Columbia, S.C., friend of the bride; Gale Peek of Summerville, S.C., Jill Peek of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jill Peek of Rock Hill, S.C., sisters-in-law of the bride.

Dr. Ashton T. Griffin III was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Scott Bailey of Virginia Beach, brother-in-law of the groom; Kenny Patterson of Fallon, Nev., friend of the groom; Andrew Peek and Joshua Peek of St. Petersburg and Austin Peek of Rock Hill, nephews of the bride; and David Peek of St. Petersburg, John Peek of Summerville and Mike Peek of Rock Hill, brothers of the bride.

Megan Bailey and Allison Bailey of Virginia Beach, nieces of the groom, were junior bridesmaids.

Abigail Peek of St. Petersburg, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Jordan Peek of Rock Hill, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.

Taylor Shaw directed the ceremony. Brittany Heather of Virginia Beach, niece of the groom, and Lundon Dudley of Rock Hill, niece of the bride, distributed programs.

Jane Griffin, aunt of the groom, was a special helper.

A program of wedding music was provided by Jane Lynch, organist; Rick Pridgen, vocalist; and Marie Kindt, violist, accompanied by Dr. Allen Kindt.

After a wedding trip to Charleston, S.C., the couple is residing in Mount Olive.

The bride is a graduate of Furman University with a bachelor of arts degree in religion; Converse College with a master of education in elementary and early childhood education and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a master of divinity in pastoral care and counseling. She is employed as a human services clinical counselor at Eastpointe Mental Health.

The groom graduated from Davidson College with a bachelor of science degree and special attainments in chemistry; Duke University with a master of arts degree in analytical chemistry and a master of education in education administration; and Montana State University with a master of science education. He received a national teaching certification in adolescence and young adulthood science from the national board for professional teaching standards. He is employed as a science teacher at Spring Creek High School and Wayne Community College.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the atrium of North Pavilion at Duke University Medical Center.

Friends and family will hold a post-wedding party this month at Billie’s.

On June 25, the groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Duke University Medical Center’s atrium of North Pavilion.

Vera Bennett Daughtry, grandmother of the groom, and Margaret Bailey, sister of the groom, held a bridesmaids’ luncheon June 25 at Cafe PariZade of Durham.

On June 11, former co-workers of the bride at New River Behavioral HealthCare held a miscellaneous shower.

The bride’s family held a kitchen shower May 30 at Grace Baptist Church of Sumter.

On May 16, Morgan Thompson held an around-the-clock shower at her home in Boone.

The High Country Hens Red Hat Society held a surprise miscellaneous shower May 5.
