Mrs. Power

Linda Claire Biggers of Brighton, England, and Thomas Benjamin Power of Brighton pledged their marriage vows Saturday, May 1 at 5 p.m.

The Rev. Frank Dobinson Russ Jr. officiated, assisted by the Rev. Deacon Gloria Price.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Price Biggers Sr. of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Eppie Charles Powell of Goldsboro and Mr. and Mrs. William Preston Biggers Sr. of Durham.

Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Michael David Power of Warren Row, Berkshire, England. He is the grandson of Jesse Power of Cape Town, South Africa, the late Derek Power and the late Rev. and Mrs. Patrick Hewat of Grantchester, England.

The bride wore her grandmother’s wedding dress of embroidered mousseline de soie cut on the bias with godets of ruffled crepe in the back and a ruffled crepe sleeves.

For her headpiece, she chose a headdress covered in lace that had belonged to the groom’s great-grandmother attached to a chapel-length veil of illusion banded with satin ribbon. She carried a cascade of white roses, lilies and lily of the valley.

Margaret Rose Westbrook of Raleigh was matron of honor. Attendants were Stephanie Taylor Bing of Maynard, Mass., and Martha Ann Parr Ille of Atlanta, Ga.

James Michael Power of Whitchurch-on-Thames, England and Dr. Matthew Richard Power of Camborne, England were their brother’s best men. Groomsmen were Robert Price Biggers Jr., brother of the bride, and Brian Richard Coleman of Cambridge, Mass.

Margaret Eichelberger directed the ceremony. Fiona Caroline Young of Oxford, England, and Jamie Homer Lockwood of Nottingham, England, greeted guests.

Dr. Charles Thomas Powell of Bethesda, Md., uncle of the bride, and Mark Nigel Barrett of Virginia Water, Surrey, England, were lectors.

Ian David Payne of Brighton carried the tintinnabulum.

A program of wedding music was provided by Roger Frank Searles, organist, and Dr. Alan Armstrong, cellist.

After a wedding trip to Belize, the couple will reside in Brighton.

The bride is a graduate of Wayne Country Day School and Guilford College with a bachelor of fine arts degree. She was presented at the Terpsichorean Ball. She is employed at a marketing agency of Brighton.

The groom graduated from Desborough School of Maidenhead and the University of Sussex with a bachelor’s degree in international relations. He is owner and manager of Pura Aventura of Brighton.

Following the ceremony, a garden reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents.

On May 1, friends of the bride’s family held a wedding day brunch at Goldsboro Country Club.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner April 30 at Walnut Creek Country Club.

On April 30, friends of the bride’s mother held a bridesmaids’ luncheon at the home of Mrs. Archer Applewhite Watkins.
