Mary E. Exum of Goldsboro became the bride of John E. Anderson of Goldsboro on Saturday, March 20, at 2 p.m.
The Reverend Dr. William J. Barber Jr. officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Greenleaf Christian Church.
The bride is the daughter of the late George Edwards and Ellen Edwards.
Parents of the groom are the late Robert and Dorothy Anderson.
Given in marriage by her uncle, Irving Chase Jr., and escorted by him and her son, Kenneth Edwards, the bride wore a formal gown of white satin and Alencon lace. The gown was fashioned with a scalloped V-neckline and long illusion sleeves embellished with pearls, sequins and silver beading. The A-line satin skirt was adorned with beaded lace. The back bodice was intricately interwoven with pearls, sequins and silver beading. Cascading pearl and sequin lace motifs defined the detachable cathedral train. A scalloped border with a spray of pearl and sequin lace appliqués encircled the hemline of the gown and train.
For her headpiece, she chose a two-tiered veil of silk illusion with a pouf attached to a V-band enhanced with pearls and sequins.
She carried a bouquet of purple and white roses and with lace surrounding the ribbon.
Ellen Greenfield, daughter of the bride, was matron of honor.
Maids of honor were Deborah Burrell of New Jersey, cousin-in-law of the groom, and Patricia Williams of Fayetteville, friend of the bride.
Bridesmaids were Inez Baldwin, sister of the bride, Margaret Jones, Delores Augustus and Linda Rhodes of Fayetteville, friends of the bride.
Best men were Henry Williamson and Lloyd Dupree of Philadelphia, friends of the groom and John Burrell of New Jersey, cousin of the groom.
Ushers were Ozzie Murphy Sr. and Randolph Augustus, friends of the couple.
Groomsmen were Morris Baldwin, brother-in-law of the bride, Leonard Greenfield, son-in-law of the bride, Robbie McKinnie, friend of the couple and Robert Anderson of Philadelphia, nephew of the groom.
Tanisha Greenfield, granddaughter of the bride, was junior bridesmaid.
Antwon Greenfield, grandson of the bride, was junior groomsman.
Lieza Greenfield, granddaughter of the bride, was flower girl. Julius Murphy, friend of the couple was ring bearer.
Janet D. Barnes of Goldsboro directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Catherine Smith. Susie Darden, Ernestine Baldwin, Lutrecia McMillian, Nancy Waters and Venus Hines served as hostesses and distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by the Rev. Jerry Dortch, Charles Broadie, Elaine and Tiffany Alexander and Montrell Barnes.
Out-of-town guests were from Fayetteville, New Jersey, Maryland, Philadelphia and California.
After a wedding cruise to the Western Caribbean, the couple will reside in Goldsboro.
The bride attended Thomas Stone High School in Maryland and Wayne Community College. She is a retired from the State of North Carolina.
The groom attended schools in Chester, Pa. He is a veteran and a retired truck driver.
Following the ceremony, a reception dinner was held at the Quality Inn. Susie Darden poured punch.
On March 14, a bridal shower was given by Nina Crawford, friend, and Ellen Greenfield, daughter of the bride.
