GREENVILLE -- Seven Springs native Rachel McCollum has completed a grant-in-aid agreement to continue her softball career at East Carolina University.
McCollum spent her first two seasons at Campbell University where she earned first-team Big South Conference accolades on two occasions, including Big South All-Freshman laurels in 2017. Last spring, she was selected as a third-team all-Southeast Region pick by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
A utility player, McCollum ranked in the top 30 nationally in five offensive categories with the Camels -- seventh in total bases (143), eighth in home runs (19), 15th in doubles (18), 18th in slugging percentage (.808) and 29th in RBI (56). She also led the Big South in runs scored (51) and ranked second in home runs, total bases and slugging percentage.
McCollum batted .384 and cranked out 68 hits.
The Campbell U record books have McCollum listed second all-time in single-season homers (19), third in slugging percentage and runs scored, fourth in total bases, and fifth in RBI and doubles.
East Carolina finished 23-32 last season, including an 8-13 worksheet against American Athletic Conference opposition. Directed by fourth-year head coach Courtney Oliver, the Pirates ended the season on a five-game skid.
