CLAYTON -- Luke Frederick mashed the game-winning home run in the top of the seventh inning and Wayne County Post 11 escaped with a 7-5, non-division victory over Clayton Post 71 on a balmy Tuesday evening.

Deadlocked at 5-all after Landon Ginn's game-tying solo home run in the sixth, Aryc Chrisman opened the WC seventh with a lead-off single. The Lenoir Community College signee stole second and third, and trotted home when Frederick slapped a 3-2 pitch over the fence.

It was Frederick's second home run of the season.

Post 71 turned a one-run deficit into a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the third.

Wayne County (14-1 overall) answered with a three-run fourth.

Christian Yarbrough reached on a lead-off single and advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. Carson Smitherman drew a full-count walk. Ginn plated Yarbrough with an RBI double.

Two outs later, Chrisman stroked a two-RBI double into left-center field.

The next five batters were retired before Ginn connected on his second home run of the season. Post 11 has belted 15 home runs as a team.

Jonathan Peacock earned the mound decision with 1 2/3 innings of one-hit, four-strikeout relief.

Conner Vernon started and allowed five runs (two earned) on two hits and five walks. Kolby Harris tossed 2 2/3 innings of no-hit, four-strikeout relief. Tucker Chapin threw one-third of an inning before Peacock took over.

The four WC hurlers combined to throw 139 pitches.

Wayne County takes today off and puts a 12-game win streak on the line Thursday at Kinston Post 43. The Area I East Division affair begins at 7 p.m. at Viking Field on the Kinston HS campus.
