MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive claimed a league-best six Conference Carolinas championships during the 2017-18 season, and placed second overall in the Joby Hawn Cup competition.

The Trojans emerged victorious in men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor track and men's and women's outdoor track. UMO compiled 150.5 points, while Cup champ Limestone amassed 163.5.

"We are proud of the fact that we have now finished first or second in the Hawn Cup each of the last seven years," said Jeff Eisen, vice president of athletics at UMO.

"This can be directly attributed to the hard and dedication of our coaches and student-athletes."

UMO seized individual men's Hawn Cup on the strength of conference championships in men's outdoor and indoor track and field, and men's cross country for the fifth time in program history.

The Trojans secured runner-up finishes in baseball, men's lacrosse and men's soccer. They edged Limestone 77-67.5

The Hawn Cup began in 1976 and was expanded to recognized three sports champions for the 2011-12 season. The Cup is determined by a points system based on each school's regular-season finish in a conference sport, along with bonus points for conference tournament finish. The number of conference sports sponsored by each school is also a factor.

UMO fields teams in 20 sports.
