FAYETTEVILLE -- Marcus Metcalf and Tracey Whitfield scored 12 points apiece as Wayne Country Day School fell to mighty Trinity Christian, 81-44, on Saturday during quarterfinal-round play of the NCISSA 1A state basketball tournament.
The Chargers finished the season with an overall record of 18-11.
"We competed, just couldn't hit our shots," noted Wayne Country Day head coach David Flowers. "(But) very proud of how far the guys came this year, especially since December. They proved they belong with some of the elite players that we went against this year... looking forward to what this young group can accomplish in the coming years."
In addition to Metcalf and Whitfield, Wayne Country Day returns most of its core next year, including Linwood Grandy and prized guard Jaden Cooper.
