WILSON -- Cole Atwood vaporized the twine at the Greenfield School Christmas Tournament on Thursday, making nine three-pointers in Wayne Country Day's 79-76 setback to Hartsville (SC).
The senior, who finished with 30 points, spurred a WCDS rally to overcome a 20-point deficit and lead by a point with just over 60 ticks remaining in regulation.
Late turnovers, however, would be its undoing.
"We were down 20 in the first half and made a terrific comeback," WCDS head coach David Flowers said. "The guys fought hard and played a really good second half... Hopefully, that can continue tomorrow."
Marcus Metcalf also performed well for the Chargers, tallying 15 points, while Javon Outlaw and Jaden Cooper finished with 10 points apiece.
WCDS (7-6) faces DASH Home School today.
