BATTLEBORO -- Deshawn Owens of Charles B. Aycock, one of Wayne County's most prolific runners in recent memory, broke his own school record in the 5,000 meters on Saturday by crossing the tape in 17:00.29 in the N.C. High School Athletic Association East Regional held at Red Oak Middle School.
His 10th place finish was good enough to garner All-Region acclaim, and what's more, book reservations for next weekend's state championship meet in Kernersville.
Davis Carroll and Chance Hobday also performed well for the Powder Blues, logging times of 18:27.59 and 19:05.85, respectively.
Southern Wayne also ran well, led by Josh Raynor's time of 18:51.35. Nicole Rodriguez paced the lady Halos with a mark of 23:01.
