MOUNT OLIVE -- Kolby Harris tossed a complete game and Wayne County Post 11 remained in contention for Area I East Division regular-season crown a 7-3 victory over Edenton Post 40 on Monday evening.

Harris permitted three unearned runs on 11 hits, walked three and retired six Post 40 batters on strikeouts. The right-hander wiggled out of bases-loaded jams in each of the first and sixth innings, and forced Post 40 to leave 11 men on base -- six in scoring position.

It was Harris' longest outing -- a 121-pitch performance that wrapped up his third victory in four decisions on the mound this season.

"Harris pitched a really good game," WC head coach Jason Sherrer said. "(He) took advantage of the big six-run second inning."

Tanner Wells crushed a three-run bomb, part of a six-run, second-inning outburst. The High Point U signee has six homers -- the most in a single season since Eastern Wayne alum Ryan Faucette also cranked out six HRs in 2014.

Wells ended the night 2-for-4.

Aryc Chrisman provided an RBI triple and Lance Wise connected on an RBI double during the early-inning uprising.

"We need to continue to score in more innings than just one big inning," Sherrer said.

Derek Neal contributed an RBI sac fly in the seventh.

Jack Casbarro tripled and Nolan Harrell filed a three-hit ledger for Wayne County, which extended its win streak to 12 over Edenton. Post 11 leads the all-time series 70-26.

Wayne County (11-7 overall, 8-2 East) entertains reigning Area I champ Pitt County on Wednesday. Post 11 concludes regular-season play at home Thursday against nemesis Wilson Post 13.

Both games start at 7 p.m.

All three teams are vying for the division's two opening-round byes in the playoffs, which begin July 1.

Pitt County is ranked fifth in the latest NCPiedmontSports.com N.C. American Legion state poll. Wayne County is sixth and Wilson is eighth.

"We really need to finish the season strong with two good teams left so we can go into the playoffs feeling good about the postseason," Sherrer said.
