AHOSKIE -- Tanner Wells notched his fourth save of the season and Wayne County Post 11 salvaged an embarrassing doubleheader split against Ahoskie Post 102 on Saturday afternoon.

Ahoskie won the opener 15-6 -- its first triumph over its Area I East Division rival since 2009.

WC took the nightcap 5-1.

In game two, Jack Casbarro limited Ahoskie to one earned run on three hits and four walks. The right-hander filed four strikeouts in 52/3 innings of work on the cliff. Wells tossed 11/3 innings of four-strikeout relief.

Wells, Tyler Daniels and Jonathan Peacock (two RBI) cranked out two hits apiece. Wells and Daniels combined to steal three bases.

Post 11 seized command with a four-run, third-inning outburst. Kolby Anderson connected on a one-out single. Casbarro and Daniels each drew a free pass, which set the table for an RBI single by Wells.

Derek Neal supplied a two-RBI single. Peacock plated Wells.

Wayne County (10-7 overall, 7-2 East) capped the scoring on Peacock's fifth-inning, one-out RBI single.

In the opener, Ahoskie pushed across 11 unearned runs against an error-plagued Post 11 defense that committed four crucial miscues. Aryc Chrisman took the mound loss. Anderson and Lance Wise appeared in relief.

Offensively, Wayne County crushed three home runs -- one each by Wells, Neal and Kolby Harris. The trio combined to bat 3-for-9 with six RBI.

Casbarro went 1-for-3.

"No excuse," WC head coach Jason Sherrer said of the opening-game loss during the twinbill contested at Hertford County HS.

Post 11 returns home today to face Edenton Post 40. First pitch is 7 p.m. at Scarborough Field on the University of Mount Olive campus.
