MOUNT OLIVE -- A quiet offensive finish and a disastrous defensive performance led to Wayne County Post 11's fifth defeat of the season Monday evening.
Post 11 built a six-run advantage after two innings.
But former rival Rocky Mount Post 58 answered with nine runs -- five of the unearned variety -- and departed Scarborough Field with a come-from-behind, 9-7 victory.
Post 58 swept the two-game season series.
High Point University commit Tanner Wells slugged a first-inning, solo home run and ended the night 3-for-4 with three RBI for Wayne County.
Lead-off batter Jack Casbarro (RBI), Kolby Harris and Carlyle Smith (two RBI) posted two hits apiece. Josh Grady (RBI) and Nolan Harrell each added one hit.
Kolby Anderson endured the mound loss.
The right-hander yielded eight runs (five unearned) on 10 hits during a six-inning stint. He retired three Post 58 batters on strikeouts and did not allow a walk.
Casbarro threw the final three innings -- a three-hit, two-strikeout effort in relief.
Post 11 hitters struck out 10 times at the dish, and have filed a total of 35 Ks in the scorebook over the last 27 innings of action.
Wayne County (5-5 overall) returns to action Wednesday at reigning Area I East champ Pitt County Post 39. Game time is 7 p.m. at Pitt Community College.
